Her hands went to my hair, tugging on it slightly as soft sounds of pleasure came out of her mouth. My lips kissed her neck as she increased the speed that she moved under me. I was close to coming but I didn’t want to go over alone. I wanted to feel her contracting around me as we went over together.

Just when I thought I couldn’t hold back any longer, Lexi cried out. She pushed herself into me and then tightened her whole body around me. She arched her back up against me as I felt her body convulse from the inside out. The feeling of her coming sent me over the edge and I cried out into her neck as I went over with her.

Wave after wave of pleasure filled me and when I was spent, I leaned into her. Lexi let out a soft laugh and held me close. If it wasn’t for her and the table, I was sure I would have fallen to the floor. I was beyond spent and relaxed and more content in that moment than I had been in my entire life. My breathing was labored and so was Lexi’s. I wasn’t sure if I could move and I knew I really didn’t want to.

It was Lexi who moved first and leaned back slightly to look at me. With heavy lids I looked up at her, as she gave me her brilliant smile, telling me how much she had enjoyed herself. I smiled back at her, amazed at her and everything that she was, everything that she was beginning to mean to me.

My hand reached up and cupped her face, and she leaned into it.

“How was that for some persuasion?” I asked.

She gave me a lopsided smile as she contemplated my question.

“It wasn’t a bad start. But is that the best you got?”

I could see that she was teasing me and I laughed. The woman was incredible and I couldn’t believe she was in my arms.

“Not in the least, care to see my other moves?” I asked.

“By all means,” she said.

She laughed as I kissed her neck as I lifted her up and carried her back to her bedroom.

Chapter 18

Alexandria

“Why did you go to Italy? Was it only for your continued education or something more? Did your family need you to leave? Had you always planned on going there? Why did Bailey go with you?” I asked

It had been three days since JD had come over to my place. Three days since I had the most amazing night of my life with a man that I was slowly falling for. I knew I shouldn’t but I couldn’t help myself. He was too sexy, too funny, too sweet, and too easy to catch off guard.

We had been playing phone tag and leaving voicemails and text messages for the better part of two days. Between writing the article and doing more research and follow up interviews and him running a restaurant and other personal obligations, we hadn’t found any time to be together. I could tell that JD had gotten annoyed when he had to cancel on me the night before.

I had been too and asked to meet him that morning at his restaurant. I needed to get my article done and the only way to do that was to interview him. It was something that we hadn’t been able to do. I told myself I would be all business when I saw him but he didn’t make it easy when he looked sexy as sin sitting at his desk with the top two buttons of his shirt unbuttoned and a cool casual smile on his face.

As soon as I had sat down and asked him about Italy, his look had immediately turned serious. I wanted him to know that I had done my research and I had not forgotten about interviewing him for the article. I needed to know things only he could tell me and I wouldn’t let him slide simply because we were sleeping together. We said that we could have both professional and personal relationships and I wanted to make sure we did and now was the time to prove it.

“How much research have you done on my family? Specifically, about my sister?” he asked.

“Bailey? A bit, not much. There isn’t much to find on her. I get the impression you and your family made sure of that.”

“If you dig deep enough, you will find out that when she was a baby, she was the obsession of a man by the name Alex Monroe. He had a child that was born right about the same time and in the same hospital as Bailey. Unfortunately, the child and mother did not survive. Monroe was consumed by grief and went a little crazy. He became convinced that his daughter had survived and that child was Bailey.”

“Oh, my goodness,” I said.

There had been rumors of problems when she was younger but they had quickly been put to rest. I had a feeling something had happened but I never would have guessed this.

“He went so far as to convince a lawyer that Bailey was his and he tried to take my parents to court. It was immediately thrown out. My parents felt sorry for him and that he needed help and tried to assist him. We thought the matter was settled, but when Bailey was four, he showed up at our house, and her school, and started following her around. We figured out who he was pretty quickly and put a restraining order and requested he get more therapy. He agreed and left the state after that and we didn’t hear from him. We thought that was the end of it.”

“Something tells me it wasn’t?”

“No. When Bailey was about twelve, he tried to take her again when she was leaving a movie theater. It was then that my family knew that this wouldn’t be over until he was behind bars.”

“Was he?”

“Yes, he was given fifteen years but was up for parole in ten. Right about that time, Bailey was finishing college. My mother freaked out. She, well, all of us, had been very protective of Bailey. Being the youngest, a girl, and then having this happen, all we wanted to do was keep her safe. It was decided it would be best if she wasn’t in the country in case Monroe got out.

“Our reasoning was, if she wasn’t around for him to try to fixate on then he would forget about her and her life would continue to go on as if nothing had happened. I had been thinking about going to school in Italy, becoming a sommelier and learning the restaurant business over there. It worked to see if Bailey wanted to come along.”
