“Oh, I do believe you, Blaze. But you see if my girl over there-” Kaipointed to me before continuing, and the blood drained from my face. “If she knows who you are talking about, then I don’t have a need for your drug-addled ass anymore.”
It was as I had feared. The next second, Kai pulled out a gunfrom the back of his waistband and aimed it at Leandra’s head. She gasped and her eyes widened in alarm.
I didn’t think before acting. I couldn’t stand Leandra, that much wastrue, but did I want to see her brains splattered everywhere?
Absolutely not.
Before Kai had a chance to cock the weapon, I jumped in front ofLeandra, putting myself in the way of her and Kai’s bullet.
Yep, dumbass. I know.
“Wait, you can’t kill her,” I squeaked and held my hands up as if tryingto placate the madman holding the gun.
Kai narrowed his eyes at me and I had a horrible feeling that beforethe end of this long-ass day, there was every chance I may just end up being put over his knee.
“And why the fuck not? She tried to blackmail me, Riley. No one doesthat and lives to tell the tale.”
Had I wondered what Kai had done to Leandra’s dealer, I would havejust had my answer.
“She’s told you everything she knows. Please, Kai, let her go,” Isaid as boldly as I could muster.
He stared at me like I was a mouse and he was a snake, ready toenjoy his next meal. My heart was beating so damn hard I’m sure everyone in the room could hear it. But I held my ground, and his gaze.
After what seemed like an eternity, Kai lowered his gun and I felt amoment of relief.
I should have known it would be short lived.
“What’s it worth, Riley? What does her life mean to you?” Smugnesscrept across his face and I knew then I had played right into his manipulative hands.
The absolute fucking bastard.
“Wh-what do you mean?” I stuttered.
“You know how this works, nothing in life comes for free. You want tosave this bitch’s life, you tell me what you are willing to offer in exchange.”
For about the twentieth time in less than twelve hours, I wanted toram my knee into Kai Wolfe’s junk.
“You’re kidding, right? Is it not enough that you’ve got me at yourbeck and call for six damn months?” My shrill voice echoed around the room.
“It’ll never be enough when it comes to you, Riley,” he replied softly, almostromantically.I glared back at him, a million and one insults on the tip of my tongue ready to throw at him.
“What more could you possibly want from me, Kai?” I whispered, thefeeling of dread growing to epic proportions in my belly.
From the corner of my eye, I could see Leandra hanging on to everyword that was being said, after all, her life depended on what would happen next, it was in her interest to hear what was going on.
“I want a night with you, Riley. One night whenever I choose, to do allthe things I’ve been dreaming of to that tight little body.” His heated eyes roamed the length of my body and I felt it all the way to my core.
Ho-ly. Fuck.
“Oh jeez, I’m fucked then. No way is Riley the prude going to openher legs for you,” Leandra snorted.
I rounded on the bitch.
“If I were you I’d be groveling at my goddamn feet. Your life dependson my answer, Blaze, and let's not pretend for one second that I actually like you,” I sneered at her, an overwhelming desire to wrapmyhands around her throat for her stupidity.
Seriously, you’d think she’d be offering to follow me around for alleternity, licking the shit off my shoe in exchange for saving her life. I turned my furious glare back to Kai.
“You. You’re an absolute bastard and you are going straight to thepits of hell,” I spat, needing him to feel my wrath. He took a step forward so that his chest brushed against mine, but I held my stance, refusing to be intimidated by him.
