“I’m going with the latter.”
Grace rolls her eyes before raking her hand through her long blonde hair. “I swear to God, Odin, you’re going to be the death of me.”
“You just don’t want to lose me as a client because I’m your favorite.”
Her blue eyes narrow. “Trustme when I say that I will be overjoyed when I don’t have to badger you about doing something anymore. I know you purposely ignore me sometimes.”
Lies.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Grace scowls at me. “So, you want to tell me that when I called you and was staringrightat you, that I imagined it when you picked up your phone, saw my name, and promptly put it back down again?”
“The sun must’ve been in your eyes.”
“I was under a tree.”
“Then you need glasses.”
“You areliterallyimpossible,” she complains, throwing her arms in the air, but I’m unmoved by the small outburst.
“I told you to start doing yoga to relax.”
She throws her head back, looking heavenward like someone is going to come save her. “When am I supposed to do that?”
I shrug because I don’t know.
I’m not her best friend and we don’t shoot the shit about our lives. I’m not a therapist, I don’t do girl drama, and I’m mainly focused on my kids.
That’s it.
And getting out of this promoting boxer shit for all these up-and-coming pricks.
“Don’t you have a friend or something?”
Grace sighs. “I don’t have time for friends.”
I guess that makes sense.
Rising from my seat, I lift my coffee cup to buy myself some alone time. “I’m going to go get a refill. Do you want anything?”
Grace doesn’t look thrilled with me asking her about anything that doesn’t involve what she wants to talk about. “No.”
Perfect.
Less shit to remember, because she puts so much in her drink that I might need to ask her to write it down.
Fishing my cell out of my jeans pocket, I stand in line at Starbucks even though I don’t need anything.
It’s really for looks and I’d pay five bucks just to get away from Grace so I can call Molly.
Which is exactly what I do.
“Hello?”
“I was starting to think I needed to send Myles over there to make sure you were still alive,” I say at the sound of her voice. “You good?”
“If you were really concerned, I’d be dead by now since you waited so long.”
