Chapter Twelve

Harrison

"Mr. Anderson is here to see you," Mrs. Thatcher says over the intercom.

"Show him in," I tell her, feeling elated from the events from the past couple of days.

It almost feels like we’re already a family, the three of us. I have no idea how we ended up there, but we did. And it’s amazing. It’s frightening, it’s wonderful, I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing or what I’m going to do, but I know I want to be the man Riley thinks I am.

The door opens and Anderson walks in with his usual smile plastered on his face. “Harrison,” he shakes my hand cordially. “How’s it going?”

" I have been so busy, I can hardly keep track of the days anymore," I admit, which is true. Mrs. Thatcher has to remind me several times about my meetings and obligations for the day, which is something that never happened before.

"Is there something wrong?" he asks, looking concerned.

"No. Everything is fine," I assure him.

"How's everything at home? Gabby says you are having a home birth."

"Wow. Word gets around fast, and we haven't decided yet," I confess.

He chuckles again. "Whether you know it or not, it has been decided. A pregnant woman is a hard person to argue with."

I chuckle too. "You're right about that."

"So, what did you want to talk to me about?" Mr. Anderson asks.

"I made the investments we discussed, and I have some information on a company I would like you to look at."

"Is that so?"

"It's a small company about to go out of business but I think you would find some of their technology interesting."

"I'll take a look at it."

"Great. I can send it to you later today. I want to talk to you about something else though."

"Oh?"

He seems surprised by my eagerness to confide in him, but I don't have many options to choose from in the friends department.

"Is Gabby going to have a nanny?"

Shawn smiles, looking somewhat relieved by my question.

"Yes, she plans on going back to work and she will need help with Alessandra to do so. Is Riley planning on working after the baby is born?"

"We haven't really talked about it."

"Well, she has plenty of time to decide. It's not like the two of you need the money."

"That's true. I know she likes to write. I am sure she’ll find something to keep herself busy," I reveal.

"Okay then. If you two are both working, I think it might be best if you had a nanny to help with the baby. Maybe you should consider having her stay home until the baby gets older. That way she doesn't feel pressured into finding a job."

"Maybe."

"Are you thinking of hiring a nanny?"
