"Thank you for letting me see him," she says. "Give him a big hug for me."

"I will."

"See you soon," she calls out, not bothering to look back.

"Drive safe."

I stand in the doorway and watch her leave. She waves back at me but keeps walking. I close the door behind me and walk downstairs.

"Hey," Harrison says as he walks into the kitchen. "Did you have a good day?"

"Yes," I answer. "It is even better now that you're home."

He pulls me in for a quick kiss and then places his hand on my lower back. "Come, let's eat."

"Okay." I follow him to the dining room table.

We sit down and begin eating our meal. I have had no appetite since Anthony was born, but food tastes amazing to me tonight. Harrison always knows how to make me feel better.

"So, how was your first week as a mom?" he asks once we finish eating.

"It's been great," I tell him. "Anthony is a wonderful baby, and Penny is an excellent nanny."

"I am glad." He reaches over and takes my hand. "I know how much you wanted this. Are you excited now that you're a mother?"

"Yes," I breathe. "I have never felt so fulfilled in my whole life."

"Good." He kisses my hand. "I am happy you are happy. This means the world to me."

"I am," I respond. "I have spent the last seven months wondering what life would be like with him, and now that he is here, I can't imagine my life any other way."

"Me either."

We continue to talk about Anthony and how much he has grown over the past week. We spend the rest of the evening playing with him and taking turns holding him. When we finally put him in his crib, he falls asleep right away without even making a peep.

"I think it's time for you to get some sleep," Harrison says when we go to bed. "I am going to get a little bit of sleep, then I'll feed him at midnight."

"Okay," I reply. "Thank you You are such a good dad."

"You're welcome." He kisses me gently and gets out of bed. "I love you, sweetheart."

"Love you too." I smile at him.

He walks over to the nursery and checks on Anthony in his crib, before crawling into bed beside me. As I fall asleep, I have never been happier than I am at this moment. Sometimes, life takes you through strange paths, but eventually, if you’re lucky, you end up exactly where you need to be: in the arms of the man you love.
