That was the last thing I felt I wanted to deal with.
But, by the time I left the store, I thought of Belle again and the heaviness was back. She’d have to go, I couldn’t stand the idea of some frail teenager working at the company. Even worse, what if she reported me? There was no way that picture could be traced to me, though, I’d made sure of that.
It was even my dick in the photograph!
Ah well, live and learn.
I sent an email to Josie, telling her to fire Belle, just saying it didn’t work out. I didn’t expect to hear from her so quickly because next thing, the phone was ringing.
“Did something happen with Belle?” Josie wanted to know.
“It’s just a feeling I have,” I said. “I heard some stuff.”
“Okay,” Josie sounded uncertain. “The thing is, Belle has come up with a great initiative for the company, something that I’m sure will work well.”
“What is it?”
“A comedy stand-up night, where anyone who wants to can do a little stand-up comedy. The idea is to award prizes and people can wear costumes if they want. It sounds like a lot of fun,” Josie said.
She was right. It did sound like fun.
“Can’t you do it?”
“I’m in the middle of hiring a new developer for NewDev, remember?”
“Can’t Samira do it?” Another HR appointment.
“She is currently working on a contract dispute,” Josie said. “What if we just kept Belle on until the comedy night is done?”
“Deal.”
I didn’t want to talk about it anymore.
I had spent enough time thinking about a crazy girl.
Chapter 5
Belle
It’s true what they say about friendship.
It really does make a difference.
Ty told Brianna to give me the front door key so I could have another made. He scolded her for being mean to me, telling her that this was my first job in a strange city where I knew nobody.
“I guess she knows she’s not in Kansas anymore,” Brianna said with an eyebrow raised.
Ty pursed his lips. “At least Greg found someone to help pay the rent. He didn’t just leave you having to pay for the place yourself.”
I could see her realizing the truth of this and watched her face soften.
“I guess,” she said.
“It’s okay,” I replied. “I’m sorry you had to find out like that.”
I walked back with Ty to thank him.
“Thanks for all your help,” I said. “I don’t know what I would’ve done without you.”
