I saw the guy Josie had been talking to earlier.

I thought I recognized him, hadn’t he been in the office once?

I took my drink over to his table and introduced myself. He took my hand, intrigued.

“I saw you talking to my boss, earlier? Josie Pirelli? From Pyramide?”

“Ah, Josephine,” when he smiled, he displayed perfectly white teeth. “She’s lovely isn’t she, has she left?”

He liked her, I thought, and felt the seeds of a plan take form.

“I think so,” I said. “Do you mind if I sit down?”

There were others at the table, but I ignored them.

“So, how do you know Josie?” I asked.

“We were at college together,” he said.

“She seemed very happy to see you again,” I said.

“You think?”

“Definitely, I kept waiting for her to come back and every time I looked for her, she was over here, talking to you!”

He seemed intrigued by the idea.

“She dated a friend of ours in college, Aaron, and we were talking about him, mostly.”

Was it my imagination or did he seem a bit let down by that?

He was very attractive, in my opinion.

“Pardon me for being so forward, but are you single by any chance?”

He stared at me as if he didn’t know what to say.

“It’s just, I’m wondering…”

“I am, yes, but I’m not interested in dating anyone right now,” he sat back, and I realized he thought I was hitting on him.

“I’m not asking for me, I’m asking for Josie.”

“Josephine?” He turned back to face me now.

“I think you should give her a call, take her out.”

He leaned forward, clearly more interested in dating someone now. “Why? Did she say something?”

“I don’t want to say too much,” I bit my lip and looked at him as if I was keeping some huge secret. “But if I were you, I’d call her.”

I got up to leave and as I walked out, I called Josie on her mobile.

“Hey, something wrong?”

“Not at all, listen, strangest thing happened now.”

“Oh?”
