Did I believe we’d be one big happy family? Not really, but I wouldn’t have thought I’d ever be married to the love of my life either. Maybe one day laughter would fill the DeLuca–Lazarro world again.
A girl could dream.
He had his hands on my shoulders, leading me somewhere outside. When I heard a sound, I backed into him.
“What is this?”
“Such a bad girl. I can tell I’ve been remiss in your discipline.”
Every time she spoke, his deep voice resulted in my pussy throbbing. “I’m a very good girl.”
“Uh-huh.” He guided me a few more feet then took my hand. When I clenched my fist on purpose, he swatted my behind. “There are more where those came from.”
I laughed. Through everything he’d been able to make me laugh. The man who’d barely said a few words less than two months before had a sense of humor. Who knew?
He grabbed my arm, extending my hand then placing it on something soft.
When I heard the slight whinnying, I ripped off the blindfold, gasping from the sight of the gorgeous horse. “Oh, my God. He looks just like Magnum.” The large stallion was sleek and black, his coat shining. “Hi, baby. You’re gorgeous.”
“He does and yes, you are.”
“I was talking about the horse.”
“So what?” he breathed as he nuzzled into my neck.
“He’s beautiful. But…” I tipped my head, able to catch the mischief in his eyes. “This isn’t Magnum.”
“No, this is his son. I had Enzo do a search for me.”
“Enzo.”
He laughed. “Yes, your brother.”
“Hmmm… I can’t believe you did this.” I turned quickly, wrapping my arms around Dar’s neck. “I love you.”
“My beautifulleonessa.”
“Does this mean I finally get to ride him?”
“I don’t know about that, shrimp. I think you might be too small.” The light in his eyes faded for a few seconds, returning with a vengeance.
I pressed my hand against his chest. It was rare to see him in anything other than suits. “I like you in jeans.”
“You do, huh?”
“I’d like you better without them.”
He pulled me closer, pressing his lips against my forehead. “That can and will be arranged. First, what are you going to name him?”
I thought about his question and smiled. “Zorro. What do you think, beautiful boy?” I shifted to be able to stroke the horse’s muzzle.
When he dropped his head, whinnying as he stomped his foot, I laughed.
“Zorro it is, baby.” I closed my eyes as I petted him, saying a silent prayer that our lives would be quiet for a little while. “Do you think the treaty with the Five Families will hold?”
“For a few months at least. We will see. I assure you that I’ll be prepared in case a single one of them pulls out of the deal.”
“I’m worried.”
