"It's beautiful," I said as my eyes scanned the furniture.

"I know, right? My father always had beautiful tastes," Crystal said as she took off her jacket.

"Is that him?" I asked as I pointed at a framed picture of a man looking stoic. He seemed so familiar.

I got a closer look at the picture and sure enough, I recognized him.

I started to sweat. If he was who I thought he was, then…

"What in the world?" A familiar voice asked.

I slowly turned and saw Hannah standing there with a bottle of beer in her hand.

"Dr. Adam Hunt, meet my aunt, Hannah Richards," Crystal introduced us.

Uncomfortable

Adam

"Dr. Adam Hunt, meet my aunt, Hannah Richards," Crystal introduced us.

Do I feign ignorance?

Do I admit that I already know her?

If I admit that I know her, then that means I’ll have to reveal to Crystal that I had failed to save her father's life ten years ago.

The scenarios in my head only spelled certain doom no matter what route I chose or thought about.

I wasn't the only one panicking.

Hannah was as well.

"Is something wrong?" Crystal asked.

"You two have been staring at each other for a while now," Ruby added.

Fuck it, play it safe.

Hannah furrowed her eyes at me. She wasn't going to say anything implicating us, but I needed to leverage on half of the truth.

Our silence had stretched on for far too long.

"It's a small world, Mrs. Richards," I said as I stretched my hand toward her.

"It's a pleasure to see you again, Dr. Hunt," she said as she accepted my hand, "Unfortunately, I'm still single."

"Oh, I'm sorry I assumed…" I sighed and let go of her hand, "I guess that makes both of us."

"Indeed," she agreed.

"You two know each other?" Ruby asked.

Crystal's eyes asked me the same question as well.

I looked at Hannah and she gave an approving nod.
