“I’ll do it,” he said instantly.
“You don’t even know what it is,” I laughed.
“Well, I know you'll never involve me in anything illegal," he said.
"But it's about helping to sell the kidneys of our patients who die," I said.
His mouth dropped, shocked to hear the words that I had spewed.
“I was kidding,” I laughed. “You know I wouldn’t do such a scary thing.”
“I don’t know, you are quite crazy,” he said while stroking his chin.
“Oh yeah? Like when?” I crossed my arms, waiting for him to back his claims.
“Like when you bit my tongue?” He leaned in close to my face and stuck out his tongue.
I swallowed and opened my mouth slightly, letting him in. I pressed my teeth down but not enough to hurt him. I even started to suck on his tongue.
He pulled back and stroked my hair.
"Something like that?" I asked.
"It hurt a lot more the last time," he replied with a smirk.
"I can make it hurt as much," I suggested.
"No, thank you, ma'am," he shook his head in protest.
"Coward."
"I agree."
This man…
"So, what did you need?" he asked.
"My mom is having a family dinner," I got back on track, "My sisters and aunt will be there, but…"
"Yeah?"
"Uh…."
Now that I think of it, Mom didn't say it was absolutely necessary. I could go without any husband material. Although, it might mean her picking a husband for me. That is a major no-no.
"You need more time off?" he asked.
"No, but that's not so bad," I replied, "I need a boyfriend or someone to pose as one. As a thirty-year-old, my mom believes I should be settling down. So, I need to show her that I have someone I'm interested in."
"And you're asking me, so that means…you're interested in me?" he asked. The smile on his face was akin to a pet that had just gotten a treat.
"I wouldn't be so excited if I were you," I crossed my arms, "She doesn't have to know if I'm interested in the person I'm bringing. I could just bring anyone at all."
"I hear you," he said, but the smile didn't leave his face. "I'll do it. I'll go with you to see your family."
I don't know why, but hearing him say that made my heart skip a beat.
We were just pretending, but…
