“Such dedication,” I said softly, “Well, that’s good, I guess. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go get this cleaned.”

“Wait,” he said as he pointed at my left hand, “What’s that?”

“Oh this?” I showed him the papers, “They’re your research papers. You really are deserving of your title as a prodigy. It’s a shame it’s made you cocky now.”

“You aren’t the nicest person, you know?” he asked in a chuckle.

“You’re the first person to say that,” I replied.

"Hey," he said, as he walked away from me and towards one of the bookshelves in the room. "I know things have been weird between us, and I just want to apologize again for what happened before and even for today. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable."

I was taken aback by his words. I had expected him to make a move again, but instead, he was apologizing.

Why did he enjoy acting like the bigger person?

He just made me feel stupid.

"I appreciate that," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "But things are still weird between us, and I don't know how to fix it."

He nodded, his eyes focused on me. "I know," he said. "But I want to try and make things right. I want to show you that I'm not the guy everyone thinks I am."

“Well, you haven’t been doing a good job so far. For one thing, you’re still half-dressed, with the girl you kissed against her will,” I said skeptically, "So, how are you going to do that?"

“For starters, that paper is out of date,” he said as he rummaged through his shelf, ignoring my comment about his half-dressed state, and brought out another research paper, “It’s not yet available to the public but you can go ahead and study this.”

I took a glance through the book and there was more information than I had expected.

Was he trying to be nice or was this another seduction attempt?

There was no cocky smile on his face this time, just a relaxed one.

“Fine. I’ll accept the offering, but don’t get ahead of yourself and think you’ve won an affection point,” I said as I left the office.

Immediately when I stepped out, I sighed with relief.

I rushed to my office and locked the door behind me.

I stared at the scrub in my hands and I swallowed hard.

“This was on his body,” I said to myself. “It might have his scent.”

I gave into my intrusive thoughts and took a deep breath.

“So…good,” I said in a low whimper.

Chapter five

She Refused to Leave My Mind

Adam

Humiliated and amused.

Two words I never thought I'd live long enough to associate myself with.

As she walked out of my office, I stood there shirtless, wondering what the hell had just happened.

I had towered over her, intimidated and teased her. And all she had done was remain passive as if I was no more than a teenager trying to hump her thighs to get off.
