So, I pleaded with the staff not to tell him about the babies.
He wasn't allowed to see the scans or anything else that would tip him off.
He was pretty upset about it and most times would ignore me, but I refused to let his stubborn sulking get to me.
Until now.
"Okay, so what you want to do is breathe," Adam said as he paced back and forth, "You just need to relax and this will be over before you know it."
"Sir, she's the one giving birth," Catherine reminded him.
"Huh? Of course, I know." He raised a brow as if she had said something stupid.
"She has a point," I added, "I'm a doctor and know the procedure."
"I know, I know," he sighed and took my hand, "I just want you to give birth to our girl easily and with as little stress as possible."
"Aye, aye, captain. I'm so glad you're not the one who's going to push," I smirked.
"And I'm glad as well. Shit looks hella painful," he said.
I dug my fingers into his hand and he yelped in pain.
"I don't think you understand what's going on here," I snarled, "So sit your ass down and tell me how beautiful I am."
"Yes, yes, your highness. Have mercy, your grace," he pleaded until I let go of his hand.
"The baby is coming," I announced.
"Yeah, we know. It's the reason we're in the labor room," he said as he looked at his hand.
It’s quiet for a few seconds, until he finally understood.
"The baby is coming!" he yelled at Catherine, "Don't just stand there! Do something."
"You sure you remember how this works?" Catherine asked.
"Move over and let me see," he pushed her aside. "You're doing so great, sweetie. You're almost done."
"Stop staring at it, Adam!" I yelled at him, embarrassed that he was going to see me like this.
"Fine," he walked over to me and took my hand in his, then kissed my forehead, "You're so beautiful right now."
"Will you kiss me?" I asked.
"While you give birth?' he asked.
"Just do it, damn you!" I yelled. I needed something to distract me from the pain.
"I can see crowning," Catherine announced.
"Alright, baby, let me go catch our daughter," he said as he kissed my forehead again and walked over.
The nervousness on his face disappeared and he switched into full doctor mode.
I pushed out the baby and, as promised, he held her safely.
There's a look of pure, undiluted joy on his face.
