As I parked my bike in front of the shop, I heard murmuring.
"Isn't that him?"
"He rides a bike too?"
"I can't believe he's actually moving around like that."
I turned and saw some people staring, but they continued on their way.
"Alright?" I raised a confused brow and locked the bike.
I hadn't visited the children's hospital in a while, so I thought I'd visit them that morning as well.
"Random flowers please, about two dozen," I requested.
The florist looked surprised to see me, which was strange because I always came to buy flowers from him for the kids.
"Uh, is everything all right?" I asked him.
"Huh? Oh yeah, yeah, everything is… swimmingly okay," he replied nervously.
Why was he acting so strange?
I couldn't help wondering.
But I didn't want to pry. I took the flowers and went to my bike. I hadn’t calculated how I would carry the flowers while riding.
"He bought flowers? For whom?"
The whispers and murmurs continued.
When I turned to them, they looked away.
What exactly was going on?
A prank?
At Edna's Medical Center for Kids, I handed the flowers to one of the kids and she distributed a stem to the rest of the children.
"Where's Crystal?" James, my rival in romance, asked.
"Well, I don’t know. I’m not sure when she’ll visit next," I replied.
"But she was here yesterday," he informed me.
"That's…okay. Did you guys have fun?" I asked with a smile.
"We did, but she seemed really sad," he replied.
My shoulders dropped.
"Did something bad happen to her?" he asked.
"Nothing happened, but she'll be fine," I assured him as I tussled his hair.
"Good morning, Adam," Edna greeted.
"Good morning, Edna," I replied, "I just thought I'd give the kids something to brighten their day. Hoping mine will be brightened as well."
