Is it wealth?

 Sex?

The questions continued to build up, and I didn't like the fact that I barely had any answers to them.

 I was getting desperate.

I needed to do anything it would take to make her look at me…and only me.

The next day at the hospital, I had acquired the new responsibility of keeping Adam as far away from Crystal as possible.

She was in her office, so I patrolled around.

I noticed Adam going her way, and I stopped him.

"She still doesn't want to see you," I said.

"Unfortunately, I'm not going to her office. I’m just passing by," he said with a sigh.

"It should stay that way. But if it's work-related, you can pass it through Sarah or myself," I said.

He stared at me, and it was obvious he was looking down on me.

A mocking smile formed, and soon after, a loud laugh.

"I'm sorry. I couldn't help it," he said as he wiped away a tear.

 "What's so funny?" I frowned.

"Listen, Harold, a guard dog will never get to sleep with its mistress," he said with contempt, "she'll always have eyes for the misunderstood rogue villain in the story. Which as much as I hate to admit it, that's what I am. I'll continue to beg her forgiveness. I don't deserve it, but I'll not stop begging. I love her too much to give up right now."

 What was he saying?

 He loved her?

A womanizer like him was capable of love?

"Too bad for you that thisguard doghas known her longer," I said, "This isn't like the time I wasn't around to protect her from you."

"You make it sound like I'm a monster," he sighed as he walked past me, "I took the colors out of her eyes, so maybe I am a monster. I'll continue to live with that guilt."

 I hated him.

He really was sorry for what he did.

If he met with her just the way he currently looked, she would surely forgive him.

 I couldn't let that happen.

There had to be a way, something I had overlooked.

"Oh, you're here?" Crystal asked as she came out of her office, dressed in her scrubs along with Sarah.

"Wanted to check up on you," I replied.

Sarah frowned at me, "I'll go ahead."
