A smile formed as I answered the call, “Well, hello there, bigger distraction.”
“You say this every time I call,” she sighed.
“I could say the same thing about you,” I replied as I walked towards my car and sat on my hood.
“Well, we both need each other when there’s a need for a distraction,” she said.
“So, what’s the mission this time?” I asked.
“Suitor,” she replied.
“You’re finally getting married?” I asked with surprise.
“Ha-ha,” she fake-laughed, “Of course, I’m not. But if I ever make up my mind to get married and settle down, it has to be with a certain genius doctor.”
“Even if the doctor couldn’t save your brother?” I asked with a wry smile.
“That was years ago, Adam. Let it go,” she said softly.
“I know, I know…but still…”
The first time I lost a patient was in a case like the one I had two days ago. Accident and punctured heart. That’s when I met Hannah. I felt guilty and hung out with her until she wasn’t bothered by the death anymore.
We hit it off though…and honestly, I enjoyed her company; but just like me, she didn’t see the need to be in a relationship. I know I said Amanda was my favorite, but Hannah was in a different league of her own.
“There’s no buts, Adam,” she said, “Now, back to my problem. This man thinks he’s the one; could you butt in as usual?”
“Aren’t you in New York?” I raised a brow.
“Nah, Richmond. Family-related issue,” she explained.
“You should have called earlier,” I said.Maybe if she had told me earlier, this situation with Crystal would have been a lot easier to handle.
“And bother the billionaire doctor and his harem? Nah, I’m good,” she chuckled, “Just come get me. I’m ten minutes away.”
“What style of entrance am I going for?” I asked.
“Uh…cheating wife,” she replied.
“Done,” I said as I got into my car and drove off to her location.
As she had said, she was in a restaurant not far from the hospital. I was still wearing my scrubs, but I looked good.
I walked into the restaurant. Most of the waiters already knew who I was, so they didn’t bother stopping me as I charged towards her table.
“Adam?” Hannah asked in fake surprise.
The man with her was startled once he noticed me.
“Is this what you’re doing now, Hannah?” I asked, “Who the hell is this guy?!”
“I… I…” she stuttered and looked at him for help.
“Ahem. I’m her friend, and who might you be?” the man asked.
“My fiancé,” Hannah replied as she covered her face in shame.
“What?!” the man got to his feet, “Why didn’t you say anything?”
