“Is that what I think it is?” I smiled as I walked over to her.

“Yeah,” she said and showed it to me.

“I don’t know what to say,” I said as I faked a tear, “I didn’t think you’d pop the question this early. Unfortunately, I have someone else in mind.”

“Aww, that breaks my heart,” she said in a monotonous tone and rolled her eyes, “As if I’d ever propose to your arrogant ass.”

“Easy there, tiger,” I raised both hands in defense, “No need to pounce on me.”

“It’s just…I want to take things to the next level,” she explained, “But what if she isn’t ready for something like this yet?”

“I hadn’t thought about that either,” I admitted.

“Guess we’re both balls of nerves,” she scoffed.

“What? I’m completely calm,” I lied.

“With due respect, sir, you’re trembling like those kids I have to give vaccine shots to,” she said, “You don’t have to hide the feeling.”

“Caught red-handed, huh?” I smirked.

“Well, at least this time, you aren’t playing around,” she said, “Celine told me you’ve finally grown up. Mentioned how you cried.”

“That bitch and her loud mouth,” I gritted my teeth.

“I share her thoughts as well,” she said, “I think it’s finally time you got a taste of happily ever after.”

“Thank you, Catherine,” I smiled.

“You’re welcome, sir,” she said, “But what’s gotyourpanties in knots?”

“I don’t have Cry—Dr. Richard’s phone number, and I needed to talk to her about something,” I replied.

“You think I don’t know what the two of you have been up to?” she raised a brow with an amused expression.

“I’m hoping you don’t,” I said as I recalled her warnings not to get entangled with Crystal.

She let out a sigh and looked at the ring, “Well, I’m guilty of the same sin, so I won’t say anything about yours. I just want you to be serious about her. She seems like a kind person, and I’m sure getting close to her wasn’t an easy task. If you betray her trust, I’ll never forgive you.”

“I won’t betray her. I’m serious about this time,” I said, “Celine and Crystal have both shown and done the impossible. What kind of man would I be if I let women one-up me?”

“You misogynistic prick,” she frowned.

“I didn’t mean any offense,” I sighed, “But I’ll admit, that came out wrong.”

“You better hope it did,” she said as she returned her attention to the ring box.

“So, when are you going to ask her?” I smirked.

“Don’t know yet, but soon,” she said.

Just then, my office door opened and Crystal walked in.

“So sorry to bother you, Dr. Hunt, but…" she stopped speaking when she saw the ring in Catherine's hand and me standing next to her.

Her timing could not have been any worse.
