"Yeah, during a TED Talk, he mentioned an experience where he couldn't save a man who also had a punctured heart,” he replied, “Sometimes, even the greatest people still have moments when they couldn’t save anyone.”
I remembered the look of disappointment on Adam’s face as we failed to protect that man. To think it wasn’t his first case.
“Good morning, Harold, Dr. Richards," Adam greeted us as he walked past us.
I noticed the smile he tossed my way. He walked with so much confidence and pride, but this was the same man who hadn’t even been able to ride a bike before yesterday.
"You seem to be in a better mood now," Harold said.
"Yeah, I am," I said as I got to my feet and stretched, "Oh, well, I have patients to see. You might want to get to work yourself."
"Right," he said and stood up as well.
"Sorry about dinner, Harold," I apologized.
"Some other time?" He raised a brow.
"Yeah… some other time," I said.

I focused on my work. Although I was an independent surgeon, I did some general work too.
Today I was attending to a patient who said she was nineteen. I decided not to pry too much, but she had come for an examination… a pregnancy one.
"I did the quick test, but I think there is some kind of mistake," she insisted.
"You're right, most times these things aren't a hundred percent accurate," I said in a soft voice. She was clearly panicking, and I needed to count my teeth with my tongue so I wouldn’t end up giving her the wrong ideas, "I can run another test for you here though. All I need you to do is…" I showed her the cup, "fill this for me."
I sent the materials to Harold's department; he was a surgeon as well but worked mainly in the medical laboratory.
"What's this?" He asked as he took the samples.
"Teenager. She thinks she's not pregnant," I replied as he accepted the samples.
”Be ready in five."
"Could you send someone to bring it to my office? I need to make sure she doesn't harm herself," I said.
"What's there to harm oneself with?" He asked as he handed the materials to another lab scientist.
"Desperate people can do the impossible," I replied.
"Uh… before you go," he stopped me, "Are you hiding anything from me?"
Besides the fact that our boss has a huge piece of meat?
"What's wrong?" I asked. His question had come out of nowhere.
"It's just that there’s been some talks about you and our handsome, brooding womanizer boss," he replied.
My expression didn’t change, nor did it falter. Sheer willpower maybe. I didn’t want to give him an idea that what he had said affected me.
"What talks?" I sighed.
