That was my hint that not having clear answers went beyond me.
It meant the same for Riff.
It meant the same for Remi.
I no longer painted.
The picture of Riff and the ocean wasn’t finished.
And I knew it never would be finished.
I had other things on my mind.
Demi was right - I couldn’t stay here forever.
Hiding for a minute was one thing.
I needed a plan.
A logical plan. A smart plan.
That set my attention to my phone.
To the offer from my old company.
A massive pay raise.
Basically everything a management position would offer but without managing anything but myself.
More money than I had ever made in my life.
I smiled and nodded.
I knew exactly what to do.
I texted my boss back regarding the job offer.
I smiled.
My response was simple and to the point.
No thanks!
Chapter Forty-One
RIFF
Hey! What the fuck are you two doing?
Those were the words that stopped the fight.
Remi leaning against my car, taking deep breaths.
I had dropped to one knee, trying to figure out if my ribs were scattered throughout my body, like someone putting a light bulb in a bag and breaking it.
The person who had pulled over stood just outside their car, yelling at us.
Remi and I looked at each other and nodded.
