Chapter Twenty-Two
RIFF
Istupidly wiped Fiona’s kiss from my lips.
As though I could actually do such a thing.
As though my lips burned a bright shade of yellow or some other vibrant color that would tell Remi that I had just made out with his sister.
And for that matter, it was more of our tongues that had fun over our lips.
What a night.
Fiona went back to the bar first.
I put my phone to my ear and paced at the back of the bar, having an imaginary conversation.
I had no idea how long to pace to sell it for real.
Eventually Fiona texted me.
Griffin. You’re not acting for a fucking award. That’s good enough.
I waited another ten seconds and then walked toward the bar.
I ended the call that didn’t exist.
Remi watched the hockey game.
I felt uneasy.
Pissed off.
Horny.
Too many emotions happening at once.
And then some of those goddamn feelings hitting too.
Which meant it was time to call it a night.
Now this should be good. I leave. And then what? Fiona sneaks out of here too? Comes back to my place? Without Remi knowing a thing?
“I think I’ve had enough fun for one night,” Remi suddenly announced. “This whole thing is fucking weird. I can’t talk to my sister. She doesn’t listen. Then you jump in like some hero.” Remi nodded to me.
“I’m just trying to keep the peace,” I said.
“Yeah, well, fuck peace,” Remi said as he stood up. “Sometimes you need a fight. Get shit out in the open.”
“Are you challenging me to a fight?” I asked.
“Riff, I will destroy you with one punch.”
“One punch? You really think that?”
“I know it.”
“Then do it,” I said. “One punch. Go for it. I’ll give it to you. Freebie.”
