“I’m not asking them to go get me ice cream, dear brother.”
“Ice cream?” Antonio grunted. “Seriously, Cee? Call Michael, he can bring it home with him. Hell, call Rachel. She’s out with Madison right now.”
“Please…” Sticking out my lips, I batted my eyes. “You won’t let me leave and I can’t wait. Just run down the road. Your niece wants some Rocky Road.”
Antonio stared at her for a beat before tossing his pen down.
“Fine. But only because I feel bad for keeping you locked away and hidden. Carlisle, tell Massimo I’ll have one of the guys there tomorrow.”
“Nice to see you again, Celestina.” Carlisle smirked as he walked past me. “Tell your sister hello for me.”
“Fat chance of that, you piece of shit.”
Antonio’s eyes widened. “Please, for the love of God, tell me he isn’t the one who hurt my sister. Because I don’t care if he’s one of Massimo’s trusted friends… I’ll kill him myself.”
“Just let it be, Antonio. Carmela is a big girl and has a wonderful man, who I’m pretty sure is in love with my wild-ass sister.”
“Right. Promise me you’ll behave while I run and get your damn ice cream.”
“Of course. What kind of trouble can I get into alone?”
Antonio kissed me and hurried out of the house. I watched as his car disappeared down the long drive and breathed a sigh of relief. Now, I just needed my twin to get here without passing him on the road. Five minutes later, Carmela’s black SUV pulled into the drive.
I waddled as fast as I could down the steps and climbed inside. “Thank God.”
“Where is Antonio?”
“Ice cream run. So, let’s get before he catches my prison break.”
Carmela jumped as the back door opened and slammed shut. I spun around to find Carlisle leaning back into the seat and smiling.
“Where are you two running off to?”
“Get the fuck out of my car.” Carmela barked.
Carlisle shook his head. “No can do. I saw Antonio pull out. Got curious why you were pulling in shortly after and turned around.”
Shit. Neither me nor my sister had seen him pull down the driveway.
“Where’s your car?”
“Around the side. Parked it out of sight so you wouldn’t see me. No… start talking. Where are you two going?”
“Just go Carmela. He hopped in, so now he’s going with us before one of the guards calls Antonio, if they haven’t already.”
Carmela hesitated before finally putting the vehicle in drive. As she pulled up to the gate and keyed in her code, a guard came running down the hill. “Fuck.” She hit the accelerator and nearly scraped the side of the car on the gate as it pulled open.
“This is a bad idea, ladies. You need to go back.”
“Shut up, you sniveling pussy. You stuck your nose in our business, so now you’re part of the escape. Besides, we’re going to Discoteca. She,”—Carmela waved her hand at me—“just needs a break from her prison.”
Shifting in my seat, I blew out a deep breath. “Thank you.” I glanced over at my sister, whose jaw was clenched. “Look, if this is too much, we can go back.”
Carmela blinked, her eyes darting to the rearview mirror.
“Maybe I’ll tell Massimo what happened, so I don’t have to see you anymore. I fucking hate you.” Her comment was directed at the man stewing in the backseat.
He closed his eyes and sighed. “I fucked up Carmela. I should have never treated you the way I did, and for that I’m sorry. I was in a bad place when things occurred between us. If I could take it back, I would.”
