“Let’s go to Discoteca, then maybe do some shopping.”
We rode in silence, and as we pulled into a parking spot, I turned to my sister.
“How about you? Are you okay being around Carlisle?”
Carlisle was dating another woman now, and Carmela was pretending she didn’t care. But I knew different. She’d given him something precious, and he’d spat all over her. I wanted to tell Massimo, but she’d begged me to keep her secret. I didn’t know why she’d protected him. In my opinion, he was an asshole. I was pretty sure Massimo would kill him if he knew what Carlisle had done.
“Um… yeah. Actually…” She blushed. “I’ve kind of been seeing someone else, but it’s new and neither of us wants the headache of the family getting involved. You know how the boys can be.”
“Yeah, I sure do. They scare off everyone who comes within a two-foot radius of us, which is why I left with Beckett that night. Look where that got me.”
“I wish they’d just tell you where he is. I don’t get all the secrecy.”
Celestina shrugged. She suspected it had something to do with their efforts in trying to bring down Manuel Costa.
“Let’s forget about that for now. Tell me about your mystery man. Someone I know?” Celestine waggled her eyebrows as they climbed from the truck.
“Ah… maybe.” Her eyes panned the parking lot, instinctively looking for someone.
I narrowed my gaze at her and put two and two together.
“Holy Shit. Massimo is going to kill you.”
“Shit. How’d you figure it out?”
“You two argue all the time. I swear you’re going to kill each other or fuck each other’s brains out.”
“Well…” Carmela giggled. “Definitely not killing each other.”
“Oh my God, you slut.” I laughed. “Does he treat you well?”
“Yes… but he’s worried about how Massimo will react.”
“To be expected. Ourbrotherscan be hotheads. Even if he helped save Catarina, he’s still kind of an outsider.”
Carmela shrugged as she pulled open the door. The man of topic appeared around the corner. He smiled at me, but I could tell he only had eyes for my twin.
“She’s here. Yep… I’ll let you know.” He pocketed his phone. “Ladies. That was your keeper ensuring you made it. Carmela, can I speak with you privately for a moment?”
The blush covering her cheeks told me they weren’t going to talk.
“Seriously, you two… you need to come clean so you can be public. Secrecy shit sucks.”
“She figured it out.” Carmela shrugged. “Come here and give me a kiss. Maybe she’s right. We should just tell Massimo.”
“Tell Massimo what?”
Carmela stiffened, and I stifled a laugh with my hand over my mouth.
“Um…” Her eyes widened like a deer caught in headlights.
“Oh, for fuck’s sake. She and Alex are dating.”
“Excuse me?” Massimo turned to Carmela and glared at her. “Is that right?”
“Jesus Christ, Celestina.” Carmela shot me a hurt look. “Yes, it is… but at least I’m not pregnant.” Carmela stormed off with tears in her eyes.
Pinching the bridge of my nose, I sighed. “Fuck.”
