He chuckles at this and I laugh too.

I stand up, not bothering to cover up and I make my way to the bathroom.

I take a moment to look at myself in the mirror, suddenly remembering that I wasn’t with my hair straightener. Great, now I’m going to go to the office looking like the grizzly bears bastard child. I sigh and step into the shower.

I finish up quickly and wrap a towel around my body then I exit the bathroom.

I come back into the room to see Holden sitting up in bed, holding my phone.

“What are you doing?” I ask walking towards him and he looks up at me.

“You got a text.” He said handing me my phone.

“You read my texts? What the hell Holden?”

We’ve been together for a little over two months, no where near long enough for him to read my texts without permission.

“I thought it might be important” he says and I scoff.

“So important that it couldn’t wait till after my shower?” I ask looking at the phone to see who texted me and of course. Luca.

“Why’s he texting you so early in the morning?” Holden asks and I shake my head,

“I don’t know, maybe something important is happening.” I say opening the text.

“So important he can’t wait till you resume for the day? At the normal time?” He asks throwing my words back at me. I don’t respond immediately as I’m busy checking the message.

We have another suspect

Oh my God.

“Holy shit”

I say and begin typing back

What? When? How? Who?

“Are you even listening to me right now?” Golden asks and I sigh and look at him,

“I’m sorry but this really is an emergency. I have to leave now.”

I stand up to get dressed but Holden jacks me back down. My towel comes lose and falls at my feet and at the same time my phone lungs wither another text.

I’ll tell you the whole thing when you come in. But this could be huge. Really huge.

I can tell he’s excited through his words and that makes me excited too, this would be major, a real break in this whole thing and frankly, we could use one. I feel Holdens eyes on me and I glance up to look at him.

“Holden,”

“Can’t you just stay in today? Please?”

“I can’t Holden, we might’ve just made a huge breakthrough on the vandal case, I have to go in to work.”

“It is not your job to find the vandal Evie”

He says and he has a point,

“I know, but I work for Luca and this is really important to him, I have to be there.”
