Jonny grips my hand hard and guides me through the crowd, and I even note a few familiar faces as they say hi. I register Blade sitting with his arm around a petite blonde, who is giggling at something he’s whispering in her ear and as he looks up, he flashes a broad welcoming smile.
“Hey, darlin’, how is that cute little baby of mine?”
The girl stares at me in shock and Jonny growls, “In your dreams, Blade.”
He merely bursts out laughing and winks at me, and then I notice Bonnie waving madly from the bar as she stands beside the man they call Snake. Her old man, as she calls him.
I smile because I will be eternally grateful to him and Flash for their help when they waited with me outside the church. He is a force of nature as he towers above her, his muscles flexing against the striking tattoo of a king cobra snake that winds up his arm and finishes at his neck. He is possibly even scarier than Blade and I swallow hard as his dark eyes glitter as we approach and now I know why Bonnie needs to be tough because her man appears to be the toughest guy I have ever met.
“Come and sit with us guys. Ryder and Ashton won’t be long, and we want to welcome Faith the Reaper way.” Bonnie says with excitement.
Now I’m nervous, especially when Jonny grins wickedly and I whisper, “I don’t like the sound of that.”
He slides his arm around my waist and whispers, “I’ve got your back, baby.”
Now I’m even more afraid and yet don’t have a chance to think about it when the jeers get even louder and it’s as if a celebrity has entered the room. A chorus of greetings makes me turn to see Ryder and Ashton enter the bar. Once again, I do a double take because I have never seen a more perfect couple in my life.
It’s as if Ryder King, their president, is untouchable. He surrounds himself with an air of authority that warns everyone away. The protective way he is holding Ashton’s hand, and the gentle looks he saves only for her, warms my soul. I have never experienced raw loving like I have here. They are a family, an amazing one because in all my life, I have never witnessed a scene like this.
In Heaven, the townsfolk are polite and reserved, too afraid to speak out of turn and be ostracized from society. It’s almost as if they live their life on automation. Not living, just existing, and if my parents could see me now, they would pray for my soul for the whole of eternity.
I watch as Ashton and Ryder work the room and it appears as if everyone wants a piece of them. They stop and chat and I note how pretty Ashton is and that Ryder’s arm never leaves her shoulder. If ever I saw a power couple, they are the best walking advert for one and it must be at least ten minutes later that they reach us.
“I need a fucking drink.” Ryder moans and almost immediately a beer is pushed his way from the pretty girl behind the bar. She slides a wine glass in Ashton’s direction and Ashton replies with a sweet, “You’re an angel, Sunday.”
She turns to me and says in her soft drawl. “Have you met Sunday, Faith?”
I shake my head shyly and she draws me over to meet the woman who appears a little older than me. She has wide green eyes and lavender hair and her figure is tall and slim. I should hate her with a passion but the soft smile she directs my way disarms me in a heartbeat. “You must be Faith. Sinner has told me all about you. Welcome to the Reapers, honey.”
I stiffen at the reference to Jonny and wonder if she’s one of the women he fucked. Jonny leans down and whispers in my ear, “I know what you’re thinking, and we are just friends. For your information, more like brother and sister, and she’s been a good listener.”
He points to a guy leaning against the end of the bar and as I turn, my heart skips a beat at the huge guy glowering into his beer.
“She hooks up with Razor because she’s the only one he can tolerate around him.” Sinner explains in a low voice.
My heart beats faster because that man looks like a brute. He wears anger like a shield, and I stare as he taps the bar with heavily ringed fingers, his muscles straining against the ink decorating his arms, his t-shirt doing a miserable job of trying to cover his huge chest. His hair is dusting his shoulders, much like Blades and now I think of it, he does look quite similar, and Sunday catches my expression and smiles impishly. Then she leans forward and whispers, “They’re brothers.”
“Blade?”
I say in surprise, and she nods. “Twins actually, but Blade got all the humor and Razor was left with the anger.”
As if he can sense us watching him, he turns and my breath hitches at the dark flashing eyes that could strike a man dead on the spot through fear and Sunday sighs.
“I’ll check on what he wants. Great to meet you, Faith. Maybe we could grab a coffee sometime. I heard you have the cutest baby in the world, and I adore babies.”
She grins and heads off down the bar, and I watch with interest as she stops in front of Razor and leans forward. He whispers something in her ear, and she reaches out and traces a light trail down his face and I stare in fascination as he extends a huge arm and pulls her closer, devouring her lips as if he is a starving man.
Bonnie says with a grin. “That man is stubborn as fuck and won’t admit he has caught feelings for Sunday.”
Ashton nods. “He pushes her away one minute and then can’t leave her alone the next.”
“Is she…” I can’t even say the word and Bonnie grins wickedly. “A whore?”
I nod, feeling as if I’m talking out of turn and Bonnie shakes her head. “Technically, yes, but as we told you, these girls write their own agenda. Razor has made it crystal clear that Sunday is his exclusive property, and she is so sweet she wouldn’t want to upset him.”
“So, they are exclusive.” I probe and Bonnie sighs.
“Not officially. You see, Sunday has options and could leave any time, and it’s tearing Razor up inside. He won’t hold her back but won’t go with her, and that’s where they are. Stalemate.”
