She turns to leave and then says over her shoulder, “Send my regards to Diana before she joins my husband. Oh, and Governor Michaels owes me a favor, so there will be no repercussions regarding the death of one of my soldiers. It was nice to meet you all, but I have packing to do. It’s been a long time coming but now I have a life to enjoy.”

As she leaves the room, we stare at one another in disbelief and Chastity laughs softly beside me. “Diana once told me that when there’s a murder, the first suspects are always the family. The motive lies with them. She wasn’t wrong.”

“Talking of which.” I grasp her hand and stand, staring at my brothers with an ominous scowl. “We have one stepfamily member to deal with before we can unravel the shit our own father left behind.”

As we leave the room, it’s with a certain kind of resolution and yet I doubt I will ever be fully at peace knowing my mother and sister died and I blame only one woman for making it happen.

CHAPTER44

CHASTITY

Iam still in shock. What just happened? I never expected an outcome like this and as we leave the building and retreat into our various cars, I’m surprised when Leo pulls me close to him despite Ryan watching with interest and kisses me so hard, I don’t have a chance to breathe.

He pulls back and the relief on his face causes me to grin as he stares at Ryan and exhales sharply. “Thank fuck.”

Ryan nods. “That went better than expected.”

Leo shakes his head. “The best part was watching Diana’s reaction. I could watch that every day for the rest of my life and die happy.”

Ryan laughs out loud, and I nod. “She didn’t see that coming.”

“She deserved every second of it.” Leo grins.

“I wonder what she hoped was written in the will?”

I’m curious and Leo shrugs. “That my father left the Ortega Mafia to his wife, or the house at least. She really believed he was infatuated with her, and she probably spent most of her time persuading him to leave her everything. I wouldn’t put it past her to have written the will herself, with her as the beneficiary.”

“Or Mario at least.” Ryan says thoughtfully.

Leo nods. “I’m convinced she loved Mario in her own dark way. Their dream was probably to seize the Ortega Mafia and become the most sadistic family in existence. Mario was obsessed with this Dark Lords shit and it suited Diana to follow him. She has always been a sick bitch and when she met Mario, two halves of the same coin met.

“What will happen to her now?”

I ask the million-dollar question and add, “Do you want me to deal with it?”

The men laugh and Leo pulls me against him and grins. “Your murdering days are over, baby. I have a different contract for you in mind.”

“You want to spoil my fun?” I protest and he shakes his head. “No, I plan on utilizing your skills in a different way.”

The expression he shoots me makes my toes curl and Ryan says with a low growl, “Why the fuck did I decide to travel in this car? Get a room already.”

Leo merely laughs and ignoring his right-hand man, kisses me so deliciously, I forget we’re not alone and kiss him back with so much love in my heart that I never knew was there.

Luckily for Ryan, we make it back to the house and waste no time heading inside.

Leo huffs out a sigh of relief as the door closes and whispers, “This feels good.”

My hand curls in his as we take a moment to fully appreciate the enormity of what just happened. The fact we made it back alive is the main thing, but knowing we have the rest of our lives to enjoy brings a certain kind of satisfaction I wasn’t expecting.

As the soldiers drift back to their usual positions, Leo grasps my face in his hands and whispers, “I love you, Chastity.”

I nod, emotion pooling in my eyes as I whisper, “I love you more, Leonardo Ortega.”

His lips crash onto mine and he pulls me closer and as we seal the deal, I have never been so happy. It’s as if the horrors that brought me here have been laid to rest and the person I once was no longer exists. There is a peacefulness to my soul that I am keen to hold on to and, right at this moment, I dedicate my entire life to Leo and making him happy. We can do it; I know we can because surely we have faced the ultimate test already.

Leo pulls back and I say huskily, “What happens now?”

The glint in his eyes gives me my answer and as we head to our room, there is no other place I would rather be.
