The words came through my mind suddenly, and I knew that’s what she would have wanted. But I wasn’t really a nice person anymore. I took a sip and put the picture down.
I was a prince, I had a duty, and I was running out of time, but I was tired of thinking logically. For a little while, I wanted to do something crazy. And that crazy thing was Lily.

LILY
In the kitchen, my heart was racing as my pen scrawled across the page of my notebook. It was still early, and I was normally not one for early mornings, but I was inspired. Song lyrics were just pouring out of me, and I’d been unable to sleep last night because of it. Well, that and other things.
I loved the songs I already had up on Spotify, but I hadn’t written anything new in a long while. The coffeeshop had gotten difficult to handle, and I’d started losing money, so my mind wasn’t on it, and my heart wasn’t really in it. And my constant colds hadn’t really been helping me sing my heart out at karaoke to bring back that inspiration.
But something about my time with James yesterday had stirred things up in me, and I was just writing and writing, a big smile on my face.
James Perry and his magic tongue. Or should I say magic fingers?
I thought about what my grandma would have said about him. She was kind of a rebel, and even though she’d lost my grandpa before I was born, she was always out and about. She went on dates, did hookups, and had the time of her life. I always wanted to be her: fiery, strong, and putting a smile on every day.
If she’d seen James, I know she would have whispered in my ear, “You get yours, Lil.”
I’d never known what my mother or father would say. They’d died in a car crash when I was just a baby. But I figured I got a little of my reserve or fear from them. A little something always held me back from jumping too far into the fray of anything. But it was because of my grandma that I’d started singing and writing at all. She had a voice like an angel, but hardly anyone knew. It was her who’d taught me everything I knew. A little ache in my chest opened up, and I pressed against it. I missed her like nothing else.
“Hey, what’s up?” Stevie asked, yawning as she stepped out of her room.
I closed my notebook and put down my pen. “Just writing.” Normally, I’d hide my stuff if April was around, but she basically lived with Caleb these days.
“Ooh, inspiration?” she asked wide-eyed, coming to push the button for the coffee machine.
“Something like that.” Stevie was the only one who knew about my dream of making it in the music industry.
We were best friends, and I knew she’d kill me if she didn’t know. But also, I had some of her secrets that no one else knew, so we’d done a kind of a swap.
“Anything to do with master of the tongue, Mr. VP?”
“Oh God, Stevie. It’s too early for jokes,” I groaned, and she chuckled, grabbing two mugs.
“What are you going to say to him when you get in the office?”
My skin went cold and clammy. “I don’t know. Hi?”
She scrunched up her face. “Not your best.”
“Well, I don’t know!” I cried. “It’s not like this is an everyday occurrence for me. Oh, I’m Lily, and I just let mega-hot bosses with European accents bend me over their desks and eat me out every day. It’s so normal!”
I threw up my hands and started to pace. I waved a hand in front of my face, unable to get enough air.
“Wait, what?” Stevie asked her hand on a coffee mug. “He bent you over the desk, and when you were ass up, the man got on his knees, and ate you out? Fuck, this is getting hotter and hotter all the time.”
“What did you think it was?” I asked, blushing so red, I felt like a teenager.
“Like you were sitting facing him. I don’t know!” This time, Stevie was getting red in the face, and she turned away to pour us each a mug.
I paused. I knew it hurt her that she wasn’t as sexually experienced as me or April, and I never wanted to embarrass her for it.
“Well, yeah, it was ass up. But it was his idea!” I took the mug and poured a little milk and dashed a bit of cinnamon in.
“I like this guy. Bold, sexy, takes what he wants.”
Yeah, me too.Wait, what? No! You cannot like him. The man is mean and grumpy and bossy!
