JAMES
A week passedwhen all Lily and I did was be with each other. I didn’t have to work, and she took time off, so it was just us. She did sing at a few places close by, and I went every time, a big smile on my face. Occasionally, we saw April, Stevie, Peter and Jen. The moment Peter saw us together, he gave me a big hug and whispered, “Told ya.”
Every night, Lily and I came home and made love like it was the first time. Each night she opened up to me a bit more, and I opened up to her. I had never had sex like this before. It was like someone had opened me up, removed all the dark pieces, and put me back together again.
I was whole once more. And wetalked. She learned everything there was to know about Lenovia and Brauchenstein, and I learned about her grandmother and what it was like growing up in New Orleans. She made me laugh, and every time I was with her, I felt better. One night after dinner together, we were walking back to my hotel, hand in hand. It had been a blissful week, but I knew I would have to get back soon.
I’d been staying updated from Gerald about my father’s condition, and I’d even spoken to him once myself, but I feared that I could lose him. To lose him when I wasn’t there would crush me.
“Are you okay?” Lily asked, slowing her walk, and turning to look at me.
“Yeah, I’m okay. Just thinking about my dad.” She smiled up at me, and drew her arms around my waist and gave me a big hug.
“You need to go back and see him, right? That’s okay, you know?”
“Yeah, I do.” I pulled back and took her hand and kissed the palm. I needed to ask her, and I feared the answer; that was why I’d been avoiding it. “Would you maybe consider coming with me?”
She smiled then, and my heart flipped over. “Yes, I would love to, James.” With relief, I picked her up and spun her around.
“Thank God, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to go without you. Leaving you the first time was hard enough.” I kissed her, and we were quiet for a few seconds.
But then, she put her hands on my chest. “But Hank has sorted out a music tour for me, and there are a few countries in Europe. I wanted to wait to tell you as a surprise. I asked him to include Lenovia.”
“Oh my god, Lily, that’s fantastic!” I gave her a big hug and kissed her again, breathing in her signature scent.
“So, do you mind if I do some music while I’m there?”
“No! I’d love to go with you on tour too.”
“Then, it’s a deal. Lenovia it is.” She laughed as I spun her around again.
The next day, we left. Lily sorted everything with Jen at the shop, and she said goodbye to her friends. She’d have to come back home at some point, but she packed for a long journey away. She was amazed at the private plane, and of course, the bedroom that was on it. She was shy at first, but I definitely encouraged her to make use of it with me.
At the airport, Gerald picked us up, and she held my hand the closer we got to the castle. “James, everything is so beautiful.” She leaned against me, and I felt content.
So far, so good.
It was in the castle that I began to get nervous. She was about to see my father who was potentially going to be a very sick-looking person, even worse than the last time. But when we got up to his room, he was sitting up, and he smiled brightly.
“James! Lily! So glad to see you.”
“Your Highness,” Lily said, blushing a little, and I took her hand as we approached my father’s bed.
“Father, this is Lily. Lily, this is Prince Friedrick, the ruling prince.”
Lily did something like a curtsy, and my father laughed, reaching out his hand for her. “Lily, so lovely to meet you. My son has been mooning over you since the last time he was here.” He grinned. “You are lovely.”
“Thank you. I’m so glad I get to meet you.”
“Me too. Sit down.”
We talked for what felt like hours, and my father looked well. When Gerald took her to the guest room, my father took my hand, and there were tears in his eyes.
“You are happy, yes?” he asked, and I nodded.
“So happy. I cannot believe I nearly stayed away forever. You were right. Peter was right.”
“Good. You look happy. She’s wonderful, James. Here, I saved this for you.” He reached over to his bedside table and picked up a tiny wooden box.
