“You beat her?”
The man nodded. “We have to be stern with the children, especially the girl ones, or they get trashy and have no respect.”
Hunter swallowed several times when he thought about the poor girl’s life so far. Her tormenter would forever be out of her life, and the pack would make sure she had everything she needed and wanted.
The man stared at the wolves. “So, are you going to make them go away? You said you’d be able to control them.”
“No, I thought I could try, but that’s silly. You can’t reason with wolves. They’re predators.”
“Wait…” The man screamed when Hunter turned, and all three wolves jumped on him and tore him apart.
The man was unrecognizable when the three animals stopped because he was torn into small pieces that littered the ground around them.
After they caught their breath and calmed, they walked to the nearest stream, shifted, and washed blood and skin off themselves with the water.
“Let’s head back,” Roman said. “I’m sure you guys feel the same way and need to be with your mates.”
Hunter nodded. “Yes, I do. I also have to call my deputies to send out a search party for the girl the man chained.”
“They’ll find her,” Roman said.
“I’ve got clothing in the shop you can have,” Blake said.
“Great. Thanks.”
When they finally returned to the girls, they found them sitting and relaxing, drinking tea. It was a lot to take in because they had violently killed a man in the last ten minutes, and to see these beautiful women just waiting for them and looking so sweet and calm. It’s exactly what they needed at the moment.
Nicole stood the moment she saw him and flew into his arms.
“I love you so much,” she murmured against his neck.
He would never get sick of hearing that from her.
“I love you, too, Mate. Let’s go home.”
Chapter Nineteen
Nicole didn’t let go of Hunter’s hand as they drove home. She’d been calm and relaxed until she saw him, then she let down her guard.
He lifted her from the seat and carried to into the house.
“I can walk,” she said.
“I know, but right now, I need to have my skin touching as much of yours as possible.”
“I do, too.”
She stood still as he undressed her and then himself before turning on the water. He tested it before lifting her into the shower. He let the water flow over her head and down her back as he stroked her before he started washing her from her head to her feet.
“Can I wash you next?” she asked.
He shook his head. “Not this time, Mate. I’m too close to the edge. I doubt we’ll make it to the bed before I take you.”
“Then let’s not wait.”
He stared down at her with a loving look that brought tears to her eyes.
Hunter nodded, lifted her against his body, turned, and pressed her back against the side of the shower.
