“Yo, brother,” Nico called out through an upstairs window. “Come on up.”
They walked through the house in amazement.
Even knowing how fast his brothers and their crew worked, he was still amazed at how far they’d come in such a short time. The electrician and plumber had finished, and the Sheetrock was up and primed to paint. A few of the rooms already had the flooring, but the guys taped plastic on it to keep it clean and from getting damaged. The rooms with carpet would be last.
Hunter remembered the dark-colored wood floor he and Nicole had picked out and was excited to see it.
“Hey, man. You guys have done a great job,” Hunter said.
Nico grinned. “We aim to please.”
Hunter snorted and watched Nicole walk around and look in closets and bathrooms.
“How in the world did you get this done so quickly?” she asked.
Nico shrugged. “I guess it’s because we’ve been doing it so long.”
“You do an amazing job,” Nicole said, walking to Hunter.
He automatically wrapped an arm around her waist. He caught the envy in his brother’s eyes that he tried to hide.
“Your time will come, man.”
Nico exhaled and nodded. “I hope so.”
“I’ll pray hard that your mate comes sooner than later,” Nicole said.
“You’re a good sister to have. Thank you.”
“When do you think we can move in?” Hunter asked.
“At the latest, next week. So, I think you guys need to step up and start looking for furniture and the basics you’ll need.”
“Can we go this weekend?” Nicole asked him.
He pressed a kiss to the top of her head. “Yes. I’ll make sure Rafe will take the day.”
He turned to his brother. “We’re headed to the house. I’m making spaghetti. Will you guys be home?”
“Hell, yeah. I wouldn’t miss your pasta.”
Hunter grinned. “It’ll be ready in an hour.”
Nico wiped his hands off with the rag he carried in his pocket. “I’ll find Aspen. He’ll want some, too.”
“I’ll make a big batch so you can have some for lunch tomorrow.”
Hunter started making the sauce. It was going to be the quick kind because he didn’t have hours for it to simmer. He added several spices to it before putting the noodles in the boiling water.
He looked over at Nicole to see she was making a salad and had the bread cut up in a basket and already on the table.
He heard his brothers come in and grinned when he listened to their arguing. They couldn’t go a whole day without a fight, but they worked and lived together. That would be a lot for any family to have to deal with.
The huge bowl he used for the spaghetti was clean and ready to fill. The noodles were drained and went in before he poured the sauce over them and then brought it to the table.
Hunter couldn’t help grinning or feeling pride at the way his mate was taking the teasing from his brother.
“Hey, I smell spaghetti,” Roman yelled from the front door.
