“Oh, joy. Another puppy,” she grumbled as she scowled at him.
He grinned. “I hope you haven’t forgotten you’re a wolf shifter, too.”
“No. But thank God I’m a female one,” she said.
“Because of the mating heat?” he asked.
“No, because most men are irritating.”
Hunter snorted out a laugh.
“What’s up, Sheriff?”
“I want you to do something, but it has to be confidential.”
One of her brows rose. “Oh, have you seen me ever walking around and telling people what’s on other people’s computers I fix? Some of it is wild.”
“Anything I should know about?” he asked.
She rolled her eyes. “No, Sheriff.”
“All right. We need you to put a few hidden cameras in the bakery.”
He watched a smile grow on her face and instantly got anxious and thought he’d made a mistake.
“You guys are going to be in such trouble,” she said.
“They won’t ever find out about it unless one of us tells them.”
Jory snorted.
“Can you do this and keep your trap closed?” Hunter asked.
Jory’s eyes narrowed, making a shiver race down his spine.
He held up his hands. “Listen, you’ve probably heard what happened to my mate, Nicole, right?”
Jory’s face softened. “Yeah. How is she?”
“Okay. She was banged up a bit, but she’s healing. I can’t concentrate on anything without knowing she’s okay.”
She nodded. “I get that, but…”
“This is for the alpha, too. His mate is pregnant. Are you going to tell him you can’t keep his mate safe?”
“You’re a jerk sometimes. You know that?” she asked.
He shrugged. “Whatever gets the job done.”
“I’ll do it. When do you want it done?”
“Yesterday,” he tried to joke.
Jory grunted. “I’ll get on it tonight. How do you want me to get in? I can get in without a key, but I’m not sure the sheriff in town would appreciate knowing I’m a locksmith, too.”
Jesus. “No, the sheriff would not like to know that unless he needs it someday.” He took a key out of his pocket and handed it to her. “I’ll pick that up later.”
Jory nodded. “I’ll send you a link to the site I set up. I suggest putting passwords on them so no one sees what you don’t want them to.”
