His face is passive but his eyes have a spark that I don’t like. I’ve seen it many times over the years and nothing good ever comes from it. “Maybe you should shit or get off the pot.”

“What are you talkin’ about?” I huff. “You know damn well I can’t do that.”

He shrugs his massive shoulders, “Why not?” He questions before taking a sip of his coffee.

“Why not?” I ask incredulously. My eyes widen even further when Jax simply nods his head. “How about because she’s our employee?” That seems reasonable, like something a responsible business owner would say.

“We don’t have any rules about employees dating,”he says in aboredtone.

I snort and grab my coffee again. “Probably because it’s always been a bunch of guys and Jenny here.”

“What about me?” Jenny questions as she glides into the breakroom. She walks over and shoves me out of her way, albeit, a lot more gently than Jax did a few moments ago.

“What is with everyone shoving me today?” I grumble under my breath.

Jenny eyes me as she grabs her own mug before pouring enough sugar in it to cause diabetes. “Probably because you’re always in the way,” she drawls as she grabs the coffee and fills up her mug before putting it back and walking to the fridge. She grabs the skim milkand addsa liberal amount to her cup. How she can even consider that mess a cup of coffee, I’ll never know.

I look over at Jax to see him smirking affectionately at Jen. She’s one of the only people who can ever get any sort of a smile out of him. I almost feel bad for the first fucker who breaks her heart, because I know my brother is going to break him, literally.

“You ever think of adding some coffee to your sugar little bear?” Jax questions making her scowl at his nickname for her. The first time we saw her, she looked exactly what weimaginedGoldilocks would look like, in a den of grumpy bears. Jax gave her the nickname of little bear that day and much to her dismay, he’s stuck with it.

She swings around and glares at him, one of the few people who could ever get away with it. “Don’t even start with me,hisses like a feral cat. “You’re still on my shit list.”

He reclines in his chair and gives her a lazy grin, which only seems to piss her off more. “Come on, little bear, that was like months ago. And he looked like a shithead. I did you a favor.”

Her eyes go squinty and beady. Truthfully, she looks kind of creepy right now. “You did me a favor?” Her voice is low and the words are spoken slowly. I may agree with Jax, but enough alarm bells are going off in my head to keep me from saying so out loud.

Jax nods his head once. “Yup. He was pathetic. Ran out of here like his ass was on fire. Boy was a lil’ bitch.”

Ya know, I’ve never put too much stock into Cadie telling us that some day Jenny would snap and try to kill us. I’m beginning to think that I probably should’ve as I watch Jenny’s right eye start to twitch. I start to surreptitiously look around to make sure that there isn’t anything sharp within her reach. I mean, I doubt she would stab him, but better to be safe, just in case.

She slowly stalks across the room and stops when the tops of her feet hit his. She leans down and places her hands down onto the table, almost caging him in. She lowers her face to his until their noses are touching. I swear,at thismoment she has bigger balls than even I do, because I sure as shit would never do this to him. Their eyes are locked, hers blazing and his looking intrigued, as if he’s genuinely curious as to what she’s about to do. Which I’m sure he is, most people would never dare get in his face like this. But then again, Jenny knows damn well that she has nothing to fear from him, unlike most people, well most men, but even women keep their distance from him for the most part.

“Of course, he ran out of here.” The venom in her voice makes me want to take a step back. I don’t, but damn, it’s not a good sound coming from her. “You lifted him by the back of his neck and told him to never even look in my direction again. Do you have any idea what you did?”

I can barely see his eyebrow arch, but from experience, I know that he has a cocky look on his face. “A favor,” he drawls lowly. I have a sudden urge to cross myself, even though I’m not religious. But it’s almost like I can feel the Grim Reaper standing nearby, waiting to take him down to hell.

“You didn’t do shit but make me the laughing stock of school,” Jenny screeches in a volume that has me cringing. The sound is worse than nails on a chalkboard. I can see Jax’s head tilt to the side from getting that sound full blast. “I’m the running joke. The little whore who can’t date normal guys because I’ve already been used up by dirty bikers.”

My blood has turned to ice and not in a fear type of way. My anger is running so hot, that I want to go down to that fucking school and beat all of those little assholes bloody. Jax has frozen in place. I can’t even tell that he’s breathing until I hear his next words.

“What did you just say?” His voice is filled with a deathly calm menace.

I walk closer to them and can see Jenny’s eyes widen. She didn’t mean to tell us that, but she let her mouth run in anger.

She backs away from Jax a little and gives a fake laugh. “Ah, nothing. Nothing, don’t worry about it.” Her chuckle is filled with nervousness, because she knows that we won’t let anyone disrespect her. We’ve never done anything violent in front of her, but she’s been around long enough to figure out what we might be capable of.

She starts to move but stops dead when Jax’s hand snatches her wrist. Not strong enough to hurt her, but with enough force to let her know that she isn’t getting out of this conversation.

Jenny looks down at her arm, then at me before looking at Jax. Her shoulders droop and she hangs her head.

“Is everything okay?” Bri asks from the doorway, her eyes narrowing on Jax’s hand.

“Not really,” I drawl while crossing my arms. “Jenny here just told us somethin’ a bit troublin’.”

Jenny looks at Bri and gives a loud sigh. “I’m fine. Don’t worry.” She waves the hand that Jax isn’t currently holding. “I’m not the one you need to be worried about.” She mutters that last line, but we all hear it in the silence.

Bri looks more and more confused each passing second. “I don’t understand. Who should I be worried about?” she asks while still eyeing Jax warily. Not that I blame her. He looks about ready to kill.
