The car replied back, garbled and more digitized than before. “Cal-ling Pac-o.”
Paco’s concerned face appeared on the screen as he answered the call. “Yes.”
“We have a problem. This place is protected.”
Paco frowned. “I checked the records. It isn’t.”
“It is,” Jordan insisted sternly. “And we need to know by whom.”
Paco’s answer was clipped. “Kind of hard to do when the records don’t exist.” He thought for a moment. “I’m on it,” is all Paco said before the call disconnected.
“What does it mean?” Madison asked, concerned.
Jordan slipped the gun into her boot. “It means nothing will be as it seems. And as soon as we enter, our access to the outside world will likely be cut off.”
Tension hung heavy in the air as she and Jordan cautiously approached the house, their senses on high alert.
They searched around for a bell.Huh?
Before they could knock, the door swung open.
There stood Alex, face to face with her. But his expression remained stoic and blank, as if they were complete strangers.
The beautiful woman beside him clapped with glee, an excited smile playing on her lips. “See, Alex? This is me, meeting your wife,” she declared with triumph.
Her delicate hand linked through Alex’s arm—a gesture that was way too familiar.
Her beauty was undeniable, elegance personified. She was definitely older than Madison expected for Alex’s taste. But then again, Alex used to have the personal cell numbers of half the women in New York. No doubt, he probably ventured north every now and again.
The more the woman’s grip on Alex tightened, the further her heart sank. Add to the fact that Alex did nothing to dissuade her.
Instead, he just stood there like a lump. A big, stupid lump who brazenly moved his hand over hers, the distinctive gesture screamingI’m with her now.
For a beat, Madison stood there and watched. Their tension was palpable. It was obvious they shared an unspoken connection, a strange, defining threat that seemed to pull them together while pushing them apart.
And maybe, just maybe, Alex wouldn’t have pursued Madison at all had he known about AJ.
Alex’s gaze shifted between Jordan and Madison, darkness clouding his gaze. For a fleeting moment, Madison saw a flicker of recognition.
But to her astonishment, Alex simply said, “Fine,” relenting to the woman’s charms. “You want to meet my wife? Well, here she is.”
In a state of shock, Madison watched as he moved past her to grab Jordan, sweeping her into a lustful, passionate kiss that left her melting in his hold.
Her jaw dropped to the ground.
What in the actual fuck?
CHAPTER23
MADISON
“Why, you must stay the night. Especially with the storm rolling in.” Stassi said. They looked up. The evening was crisp and clear.
Not that it mattered.I’ll show her a storm rolling in.
There Madison stood, foot tapping, hands on her hips. Her eyes glued to her husband…whose lips were all over Jordan’s.
With tongue.
