She hangs her head, covering her face with her hands and groans.

“I personally love that you aren’t wearing any panties.” Wrapping my arms around her I pull her body back tighter to mine and bite her earlobe, making her laugh and attempt to wiggle away.

“My mother loves you babe,” I tell her, kissing her neck. “But seriously, let’s talk about those missing panties.”

“Do you have any plans tonight?” Gran walks past me and grabs her purse.

“Garrett is working late tonight, but I’m sure he’ll call when he’s off and maybe we’ll do something.”

“I’m gonna go play bingo,” she adds, and I arch a brow at her. “What?”

“Since when do you wear a dress to bingo?”

“I like this dress,” holding out her hand she looks down at herself. “Does it look bad?”

“No,” I tell her, and she places her hand on her hip offering me the normal Gran sass. “I just wish you’d stop lying like a teenager and admit that you’re meeting Wilbur for some nookie.” I try not to shiver at the thought.

“Fine,” she shrugs, “If you must know I’m going to Wilbur’s and a dress just makes things easier.”

“Oh my God, Gran,” I laugh.

“I have the right to have some fun.”

“You do,” I lean back against the counter, crossing my arms over my chest. “Fun looks good on you.”

“Feels good too,” she offers me a wink and a smile bigger than I’ve seen on her face in weeks spreads across her face. “You be good and tell that handsome man of yours I said hi when you see him later.” With that she walks out the door and closes it behind her.

Things have been so stressful for weeks, with Rose and the unknown, things are feeling better now. It’s like we can finally relax knowing that Rose is getting the help she needs. I won’t lie and say that I’m not worried that when she is out she may fall back to old habits. But I try not to think about it, I try to focus on how sincere she was when Gran and I walked her into the recovery center.

That helps.

I grab my glass of wine and walk toward the bathroom, leaning over to turn on the water. Feeling it until it's the right temperature, I step back and place my glass on the edge.

Typing a message out on my phone I send a text attaching a pic too, and smile when I think about what Garrett will think when he sees it. My bare legs, the water running in the tub and the glass of wine on the ledge in the background.

Me: This bath would be more enjoyable if you were here to share it with me.

Slipping from the bathroom to grab my robe I reenter the bathroom and start to pull my shirt up and over my head, when I hear the front door close.

I freeze, letting my shirt drop, turning off the water and exiting the bathroom prepared to hassle Gran about what she forgot when I freeze.

“Ah Sweetheart, you look disappointed.”

Fear surges through me when Phil takes another step in my direction.

“Looks like sweet old Granny forgot to lock the door in her rush to meet her friend.” His smirk is frightening, and it terrifies me.

“What are you doing here?” My words are shaky, tears prick my eyes. “You should leave.”

“Nah,” he takes another step toward me. “I think I’ll stay awhile.”

“Please, just go,” I glance around, trying to decide where I could run, and I realize I have nowhere to go. He crowds the hallway, leaving only the bedrooms as my escape.

“You and Tennison seem to be causing me and my family a bit of trouble.” He appears to be anxious, like he’s on something maybe. He’s looking all around, his hands constantly moving.
