I haven’t made any lingerie in almost a week. And I miss it.
I haven’t had time to hang out with Grinny or Holly and April, and I miss them.
I haven’t talked to Jamison much, and Ireallymiss him. More than I ever thought possible.
We’ve done staff Zoom meetings with him, so I’ve seen him that way, but between his time at the hospital, and me taking care of everything here, there’s been little time to talk to him one-on-one.
He texts every morning and every night, but there’s been no discussion of when he’s coming back, or much conversation beyond me asking about his mom and him asking about the lodge and the puppies.
When he first got there and texted that he wanted to figure out how we do all this, I wasn’t sure how to respond to that. I didn’t want to assume anything, and he hasn’t brought it up again. So, I’ve just stuck to what I do know…the easy topics.
And really, I’ve had little time to think about any of it with being so busy, except that it still manages to permeate my thoughts no matter what else Ishouldbe doing.
Holly pokes her head in the door. “Come on, I promised April I’d get you out of here tonight. It’s nine o’clock on a Friday night, you should be taking a break. Aren’t you exhausted?”
“It’s already nine? Yes, I’m exhausted, but I still have a million things to do.”
“Nothing too pressing though, right? You can leave it for Albert, Vera, and Doug until the morning, can’t you?”
I made a face. “I’m not so sure. You know how it’s been around here lately, and with Jamison gone…”
“Have you even eaten?” When she sees my face, she moves forward to pull me up. “You need to eat.”
“Why don’t you see if Magnus is around? I bet he needs to eat too,” I tease.
Her cheeks turn bright pink, her ears a deep red, and I stare at her in shock. I’ve never seen her this way over anyone. Ever.
“You are really into this guy,” I say, smiling.
“NO. No, it’s not, I’m not…I don’t think he—” she stutters and gives up when I smile blankly up at her.
“My bestie has finally found a man who makes her speechless and makes her flush. I didn’t think you were capable of either.” I laugh and hug her.
She rolls her eyes but hugs me back. “Yesterday we were walking toward Happy Cow at the same time and when I saw him, I turned and walked in the opposite direction.” She looks horrified when I gasp. “I know.”
Her forehead lands repeatedly on my shoulder as she groans.
“Did he see you?”
“Yes,” she whimpers.
“Holly! That’s so rude.” I laugh and she does too, although hers is tinged with hysteria.
“I didn’t have time to get caught in another freezeframe with him—I had to get to work!”
“Funny, he doesn’t have any problem talking to me and anyone else around here.” I hold her cheeks steady so she doesn’t start banging her head on my shoulder again. “Seems like you’re both equally smitten. We just need to figure out how to get you talking to each other.”
“Uh. Have youseenhim? I’ve never even been attracted to a blond guy before…didn’t know I was into long hair either, but I want to wrap my fists in it and hold on for dear life. And his eyes and those full lips…” She holds her hand up in front of her lips as if recalling his back to memory. “I thought I was going to throw up if I talked.”
“Geez, that’s a strong reaction.” I frown. “Maybe we shouldn’t get the two of you talking…”
“No, I want to. Maybe I just need a little liquid courage.” She clasps my hands. “Do you think he’s out tonight? Let’s see if we can find him.”
I look back at the pile of paper on my desk and check my phone. There’s a text from Theo. He has the dogs at his place to run with his dog, Fred.
Theo
I think I wore the dogs out. Dropped them back at your place at 8. See you tomorrow at Grinny’s.
