I bury my face in his chest. “You’re not eventryingto keep this a secret, are you?”
“No, not even a little bit.”

NERVES AND SNOWFLAKES
JAMISON
I knock on Scarlett’s door, my chest already in that weird topsy-turvy state it gets just at the thought of seeing her.
She opens the door and I stare, speechless. Her head tilts and she grins uncertainly.
“Hi. You okay?” She grabs her coat and starts putting it on, reaching back to grab her purse.
“I-you look…incredible.” I lean in and kiss her on the cheek and she flushes.
“Thank you. You look pretty incredible too.”
She steps outside and I take her hand, and we start walking toward the gondola station.
Why do I feel nervous all of a sudden?I laugh under my breath.
“Zac says he doesn’t even recognize me right now,” I confess.
“Why?”
“Because I’ve never been so…well, whatever this is.” I glance at her out of the corner of my eye and then kiss the hand I’m holding. “I’m crazy about you, you know that, right?”
“Uh…I…you are?”
“Yes.”
She’s quiet, but it’s not an uncomfortable silence. I get the impression that I need to let her process all of this, which is understandable. I’m still trying to process it myself.
“Holly and April are mad that they missed the show at The Dancing Emu…and that Lar and Mar were the ones to fill them in about you and me.”
I lift an eyebrow. “I bet Lar and Mar have been talking about us since that first morning we showed up there at the same time.”
She laughs. “Lots of angsty tension that day.”
I shrug. “You were the one putting out the angst, Kitten.”
She crinkles her nose and grins at me shyly, which makes my heart dive.
The wind picks up as we’re walking, snowflakes falling rapidly around us.
“I knew it was going to snow,” she says. “Wyatt and I had a bet going…he owes me five dollars.”
I grin. I like that she’s so close to all of her brothers. “Is he coming to dinner?”
“Yeah, Wyatt and Theo are the only ones who can make it actually. Sutton and Owen had plans for dinner already and they’ll bring the dogs home afterward. And Callum wasn’t able to get done with work early enough. Wyatt’s bringing Grinny,” she adds.
We pass several people we know, locals and some who are guests at the lodge, nodding and saying hello.
“What’s it like being so revered?” I ask Scarlett after the last people had just stopped and hugged her and wanted to chat for five minutes despite the snow picking up.
“What do you mean?”
