He raised a brow. “Is this some kind of weird, wear masks and suits type orgy? I mean, I might be into it. Or I would have been. If I weren’t engaged.”

There it was. I stared at Gin like he’d been dropped on his head at birth, which I had a working theory that he was, before I slipped into my car.

My life was a string of insanity that never ended. As I pulled away from the curb and tried to ignore Gin’s awful fucking rapping, my stomach tightened. In eight short hours, I would be a married man.

It felt as if my whole life was about to change.

Hunger and paintook turns pulling me out of my thoughts. I attempted to escape, but that was no use. No matter how hard I struggled, I did more damage to myself than I gained any traction in breaking free. Everything from my wrists to my shoulders was tied back. I was bound tighter than a nut job in the psych ward. Pressure built in the middle of my shoulder blades the longer I lay on the wooden floor. What used to be my childhood bedroom was now my prison cell. It wouldn’t be so bad if my legs and arms weren’t restrained, not to mention the gag and muzzle on my face. It was overkill even for that ornery old man.

The door opened, followed by the creaking of light footsteps. It couldn’t be one of those idiots that followed my father’s every word. They always walked heavily and with purpose. I turned my head, shaking it enough to get the hair out of my eyes.

“Shit, Har,” Lorelei’s voice fluttered over to me. She moved closer, but one of the goons followed her in and stopped her. “Fuck off. He’s my brother. This isn’t necessary.”

“He’s killed at least five of us in the past two days. We aren’t taking any chances.”

Lorelei rolled her eyes. “You shouldn’t be so weak. He’s wrapped up anyway.”

“It’s for everyone’s safety and the boss’s orders.”

The mention of our father shut her up real quick. Lorelei’s shoulders dropped along with her mouth. “Oh, I’ll try and reason with daddy later. He didn’t need to go so extreme. He could have just talked to you. I’m sure you would have listened.”

We both knew that was a load of shit.

I swore Lorelei lived in a different world than I did. She saw things with rose-colored glasses. A huge pile of cow shit could be in front of her, and she’d explain it away, making up some crap about its good for the garden. What I would kill to have her mindset. Although, thinking about it, I’d probably kill myself if I had to go around smiling at people I didn’t like.

“How have you been?” she asked.

My right eye twitched out of pure annoyance, or maybe it was a lack of food. Either way, Lorelei was quickly climbing the list of people I thought about shoving off a cliff. I loved my twin. Shit, she was the best and worst person in the world, but right now wasn’t a good time to have one of her chit-chatting moments.

“Can’t you remove that thing?” Lorelei asked. Her freshly manicured nails pointed at the metal mouthpiece between my teeth.

Feel like a fucking horse with this bit in.It was beyond embarrassing.

The guard shook his head. “No can do. He bit Minato’s ear off and tore out Ren’s jugular.”

“Har,” Lorelei groaned.

Whose side are you on?

She shook her head, her thick black hair cascading around her. “It’s just me and him. Harlow would never hurt me, so please.”

She batted her lashes at him working her pretty princess ways. Being the only daughter of Denji Hayashi, head of the Kotetsu-Kaclan, gave her certain perks that I wouldn’t ever have as the fourth son.

“Sorry. I would, but there is no way I’m going near his mouth.” He took a step back nervously, glancing my way.

If I could, I’d jump at him just to watch him cower in fear.

“Sorry, Har.” Lorelei sighed, turning around to face me. She stepped closer and slowly lowered herself to her knees, nearly meeting me at eye level. She knew how much I hated when people looked down on me. “This is crazy. Why did you fight them? I tried calling you, but you didn’t answer.”

She did understand that I didn’t sit by the phone all day waiting on her call, right? If we had twin telepathy, I was certain Lorelei would have stormed out of the room at some of my thoughts right now.

“I’m so sorry,” Lorelei said.

How many times was she going to apologize? I wanted to know why in the fuck I was muzzled like a beast.

I glared at my twin, the metal piece lodged between my teeth cutting into the corners of my mouth. Saliva dripped down my chin like I was some wild animal. They hadn’t seen wild yet. The moment I was set free, I would rain hell down on everyone, my father included.

“Harlow, don’t glare at me. This wasn’t planned. You know I love Notin; he treats me right.”
