I arched one eyebrow. “Recollections vary. Let’s leave it at that.”

Lee’s grin widened. She loved teasing me. She lived for it.

I lived for her.

“Shall we begin?” Noémie asked. “I ’ave some beautiful gowns for a beautiful girl.”

She took Lee by the arm, and the two women disappeared into the back. I wandered around the store, which took less than thirty seconds, helped myself to a bottle of water, then sat on a purple leather couch and waited.

Ten minutes later, Lee emerged from behind the screen door.

I swear I almost swallowed my tongue.

“Well, what do you think? I thought this would work for the night before the wedding.”

Dear God, help me.

My ability to speak fled. Lee was wearing a bottle-green velvet dress with full sleeves and a neckline that made her boobs pop, and my mouth water. Cinched at the waist, it fell to the floor with a slit up one side showing off a perfectly toned leg. She twirled, giving me a rear view.

Fuck me.

Her ass looked… bitable. It was the sort of dress that made grown men sell everything they owned for a chance to run their hands over the shapely body encased inside.

I opened my mouth. Closed it again. Opened it. Nothing.

Speak, goddammit. Say something. Anything.

“That’s… um… nice.”

Anything but that. Jesus Christ.

“I mean… yeah, it’s nice.”

Someone cut out my tongue.

“Nice?” Lee quirked a brow.

“No. I don’t mean nice. I mean… great. Terrific.” I swallowed. “You look stunning, Lee.”

She ran her hands over her hips. Lucky hands.

“I gotta say, Kingcaid, you’re playing the fake boyfriend part to perfection, although it’s just us. You don’t need to ham it up yet.”

“I’m practicing.”

I wasn’t practicing. I was salivating.

“So it’ll do? For the stupid rehearsal dinner? I mean, who has a rehearsal dinner the night before the actual wedding? What are we rehearsing?”

“How not to kill the groom? But yes. It’ll more than do. Benedict might swallow his tongue.”

Lord knows I almost did.

“Good. Hope the bastard chokes on it.”

She spun on her heel and disappeared again. I blew out a breath.

Get a grip.
