“I’m not going to sleep with you.”

He flashed me those perfect teeth again.

I admonished him by wagging a finger. “I know the game you’re playing, and I’m here to tell you that you’re wasting your time.”

“You set the rules, Kiana. And I plan to abide by them.”

He leaned forward, those piercing eyes of his hypnotizing. I couldn’t look away.

“But that doesn’t mean I won’t work to change your mind every chance I get.”

I knew it!

“You said ‘friends.’?”

“And I meant it.”

“But you want more?”

He fastened his seat belt, and I followed suit, waiting for an answer to my question.

“I do, yes.”

A rush of heat lit me up on the inside. Being desired by a man like Asher Kingcaid was a hell of an aphrodisiac. Didn’t mean I had to follow through. I had the power to resist him.

I hope.

“Why?”

He gestured to the steward. “Edward, could you bring us some champagne? We’re celebrating.”

“Of course, Mr. Kingcaid.”

“Celebrating what?” I asked when Edward retreated to the galley at the back of the plane.

“The day we’ll tell our grandchildren about. The day you finally surrendered to the inevitable.”

“Grandchildren?” I almost choked. “What the hell are you talking about?”

He grinned. “You don’t actually think I’m going to give up, do you Kiana? I understand your reluctance to date me, and I respect it. But I don’t agree with it. I’m of the firm belief that if two people want to make something work badly enough, they’ll find a way around any obstacles, real or otherwise.”

He paused as Edward brought over two champagne flutes three-quarters filled. Very precise. Taking them both, Asher handed one to me.

“To us.”

My mouth hung open. Seemed to happen a lot around this guy. “What’s changed?”

He took a sip. “Nothing has changed. I fully intend to respect your boundaries. But if you expect me to play fair, then I’m about to disappoint you. In the end, it will beyouwho’ll change the rules. And when you do, I’ll be waiting.”

Chapter14

Asher

Timing is key.

Several seconds passedduring which Kiana stared at me, slack-jawed.

I must have shocked her with my honesty. I hadn’t expected to show my hand so early, but the month I’d stayed away had been torture, and seeing her again yesterday had only cemented my belief that we could have something special.
