Lennox
“You’re insane.”
Melody laughed. “No, it sounds like you’re moving to where it’s insane, and I’m kind of jealous, so that’s why I’m going to pack up all of your stuff and bring it to you. I want to see the insane in person.”
Yeah, I was moving to Rockton. I had decided five nights ago, and as each day passed, I felt more and more right in my decision.
My future was with Jonas.
“I can easily come back and help, Melody.”
“Nope, because if you come and pack up, then I don’t need to come there. Give Perry and me a week or so to get things lined up, and then we’ll be on the way.”
“I’ll pay for everything.”
“Sure,” Melody drawled. “I’ll give you my bill after we get there.”
“I’m serious, Melody. I will pay you.” I still had zero clue what I was going to do for work here, but I wasn’t as stressed as I was before. Every night when Jonas and I went for a ride, I saw a few businesses I planned on seeing if they were hiring.
“The bill will be in the mail,” she laughed. “Now, if you will excuse me, I need to help my best friend move to her happily ever after.”
“This is crazy, isn’t it?” I whispered.
“Uh, absolutely, but it’s the right thing to do, Lennox. You have absolutely nothing keeping you in Clinton. Heck, you’ll be closer to your brother this way, too. You’ll be able to visit him finally,” she chirped.
“Yeah, you’re right. I hadn’t even thought about it that way.” I hadn’t seen Nolan in years, and now I would be so much closer to him.
“See, another reason why moving to Rockton is the best thing for you.”
“I’m going to miss you, Melody.” I didn’t have many friends in Clinton, hell, I really only had Melody, and I was going to miss her.
“Girl, you know I will only be a phone call away, and I’ll be up to visit you regularly. Perry hired me as his assistant at the newspaper, so since I’m screwing my boss, I can get off whenever I want.”
“Literally,” I laughed.
“Lennox,” she scolded. “You dirty little girl. I like this change in you. You seem way happier and free.”
I was.
Jonas had been the one who was free from prison, but being with him had freed me, too.
“I’m so happy that I’m kind of afraid that something is going to happen to make it all go away.”
Melody scoffed. “Get that thought out of your head, Lennox. You deserve every second of happiness you have. Now, let me get off this phone for real now. I’ll call you if I have any questions while packing, but I think I should be good.”
“Okay,” I sighed.
“I’ll see you soon, Lennox. Just be happy and enjoy the ride, okay?”
I smiled wide and plopped onto the couch. “Will do.” She ended the call, and I tossed my phone on the ottoman.
Meg jumped out from behind the couch and clenched her hands together. “I want you to know I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but I did, and I am so happy that you’re moving here."
I reared back and clasped a hand to my chest. “Where the heck did you come from? Were you hiding behind the couch?” I laughed.
Meg sank down next to me and put her arm around my shoulders. Marty hopped up next to her and laid his head on her lap. “Well, yes, but I only hid because I wanted to hear what you were saying without you knowing that I was listening.”
“Uh, well, okay?” There really wasn’t a way to be mad at Meg for anything because she easily owned up to what she was doing.
