“Why do you think?” he asked, winking at me.

“Oh my gosh. You want me to be your live-in lover? Is that what this is about?”

“No,” he said.

“Really? You don’t want to sleep with me?”

“I do want to sleep with you, but I don’t have to employ you to sleep with you,” he spurned. “I think we both know that.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“I think we both know that if I want to fuck you, I can fuck you.”

“You wish. You’re such a jackass. I can’t believe you—”

“Can’t believe what? That you attempted to lie to me and that I knew you were lying and played you at your own game?”

I sighed. “So then you’re not single white femaling me, huh?”

“What?” His eyes narrowed, and he looked confused.

“Nothing.” I started laughing then. “You kind of had me going, you know?”

“You deserved it for all the lies you were telling me.”

“So then how’s this going to work? What must your guests think of me? I…”

“They’re all professors at the university with me,” he said. “They know about this little study of mine, and every single one of them is also convinced that you did not study at the Culinary Institute.”

“People were calling my food shit and being really rude to me and…”

“I will admit that some of them do not have social etiquette, but…” He shrugged.

“It is what it is. So they all know that we’re not really going to elope.”

“I don’t know what they know,” he said. “I can only guess as to what they’re thinking is going on right now.”

“What do you mean?” My eyes widened.

“Well, I’m sure they’ve seen the chemistry between us. I’m sure they’ve seen the lust, the way you look at me, the way you touch me, the way…”

“What? You are the one that looks at me like you want to eat me.”

“I do want to eat you very much. In fact, I want to eat you up right now.”

I licked my lips nervously. “Now is not the time or the place, Finn Joseph.”

“I know,” he said, “but it would be quite fun if it was, right?”

I swallowed hard. “So what do we do now?”

“Your sisters will get the catering that I’ve ordered, and my guests will eat a proper meal, and then they’ll go home. I’ll pay your sisters. I have a cleaner coming in tomorrow morning who will tidy up the mess that you made in the kitchen.”

I looked into his eyes. “And me?”

“And you will figure out how to become a better housekeeper.”

“So you still want me to stay on as a housekeeper?”
