My throat tightens.

Here we go.

“I went to the frat party last night. I was concerned that you might do something stupid.”

“Stupid?” I fold my arms.

He lets out an exasperated breath. “Not stupid. More like that something could happen to you,” he explains. “You’d been drinking, though I didn’t appreciate how much. Do you remember?”

“I’m not sure,” I say honestly.

“Right. We…talked, and then you kissed me.”

There it is.

It’s awkward, but we can get through this.

Grow up. Take responsibility.

“I’m sorry.”

“You are.” His voice sharpens.

“Yes. You’re right that I was drinking, but that’s no excuse. I’m attracted to you but this obviously isn’t going anywhere.” His expression clouds with irritation. “Wait, areyousorry?”

His jaw clenches. “Not as sorry as I should be. I keep thinking about that kiss. The part I’m most upset about is that you forgot it happened.”

Oxygen floods my lungs.

My fingertips tingle.

Every part of me is suddenly alive and aware.

“I didn’t forget it. I thought it was a crazy hot dream.”

His eyes darken. Every inch of him is tight as his gaze searches my face. “And you didn’t think to tell me about this crazy hot dream?”

I lift my chin. “It’s not the first one I’ve had.”

The words hang between us so long, I think he didn’t hear me.

His head drops back on a groan. “Dammit, Kat. I can’t think straight with you around.”

He’s pacing across the room, then back this way.

“You shouldn’t have kissed me,” he goes on.

“It wasn’t good?” I challenge, because if even part of what I remembered was real, it was hot as hell.

“Kissing you was everything I imagined. It’s not enough.”

This version of Daniel is beyond sexy, especially when he rakes both hands through his hair and leaves it standing on end.

My body sways towards him.

“But?”

He leans over me, resting his forehead against mine.
