“Yeah. She made it sound like she had people in her loop that willingly fed them.”

“Hmm.” Steve scratched his chin. “I still hear them outside.”

“Go on,” I assured him. “They’re good vampires. Without them, I would have never found you guys.”

“I’ll give my thanks.” Steve winked as he walked toward the door.

Suddenly, I felt unsure. Was it really okay to be their sire? How would it change us? What if they regretted it one day?

“Jayne.”

I looked up and a wave of happiness flushed me from head to toe.Steve.He beamed as tears filled my eyes.

Somehow, it was going to be perfect. Steve’s emotions told me so. With a shrug, he gestured toward Pete squatting against a wall, then headed out the door. Liam gave me a push in Pete’s direction.

As I approached, he dropped his head between his legs. I sank to my knees in front of him and asked, “Are you unhappy I’m your sire now, Pete?”

He jerked his head up. “Never. Why would you think that?”

“Then be happy.” I grabbed his knee. “Larissa explained to me how hard it must have been for you to keep me alive. She said it should have been impossible, yet…” I pushed between his legs and hugged him. He placed his head on my chest and squeezed my right arm. “You saved me.”

“No, Jayne… You saved us.”

Chapter Thirty-Nine

LIAM

After confirming Marilyn’s death and promising to meet again, Larissa said her goodbye to Jayne. But not without warning her to end all of Marilyn’s corrupt vampires if they wouldn’t heed to Jayne’s words. No killing. No pillaging. No raping.

Larissa also took Marilyn’s portal chip as payment for helping us, so I told her about Jayne’s best friend, Ruth. The sob story of Jayne’s friend living in another world was enough for Larissa to grant access to the Underworld anytime we wished. Honestly, I probably didn’t have to say anything. Larissa seemed oddly fond of Jayne in a way that had me holding her closer when Larissa was around. She laughed at my fussing, then left.

Even though vampires didn’t sleep, we all needed a good recharge after the last few days. And I wanted time alone with my heartbeat girl.

While Jayne murmured goodnight to Steve and Pete, I chuckled to myself. It would be a long time before Jayne got used to never sleeping again. But I hoped she always kept her habits. Her wishing me a goodnight was a million times better than never hearing it all.

We spent all that time searching for someone to rescue us from Marilyn, and our savior was under our noses the entire time. No wonder Steve and Pete felt so strong for Jayne, too. That bond was always begging to come to life when she neared us.

Freshly showered and propped against the sink, I strummed my guitar as I watched her silhouette through the shower door. Jayne’s hands caressed her pert breasts and slid down. My body hummed to life. The water made me jealous. The slick trickle of the stream gliding down her naked flesh as she washed herself had my cock thickening. All the ways she rubbed herself, and the noises she made was an exotic sound to my ear.

While admiring Jayne, a crest of happiness hit me square in the chest. I was free. Marilyn was gone. With Jayne, the sire that killed her, she’d be linked to Pete and Steve, all of Marilyn’s men, and anyone Jayne turned in the future.

My love for Jayne ran hot. I didn’t enjoy having her bonded to so many. Never would. The only thing that tempered my irrationality was Jayne herself and that beatless heart of hers. It belonged to me. Through the bond, I sensed all her love, even how deeply she cared for Pete and Steve. Her feelings for me were distinct. It ran hot, electrifying her skin and warming her undead organs. That desire burst through my mind in a chaotic splendor as if those emotions could whisper, you’re the only one I want.

I believed in Jayne’s radiance.

Jayne healed us. She’d continue to do so. It made sense that someone sweet like my heartbeat girl, who always looked out for everyone else, became a sire. There was no other person I’d want to be controlled by. Jayne, being Jayne, would never do that to anyone anyway unless she had a good reason. I saw her becoming more of a caregiver to those vampires left behind. Because that was what Jayne did. She cared for people.

But I supposed my heartbeat girl wasn’t my heartbeat girl. That’s fine. She’d be my beatless one.

My mind went blank as Jayne bent over to wash her legs. My skin heated. Setting my guitar on the sink, I pushed myself off it. “You’re clean. Get out.”

The water cut off. Jayne opened the shower door, grabbed a towel, and disappeared. Then the bed creaked, so I looked toward the bedroom. Letting my fangs drop, I walked out and paused. Sitting at the edge of the mattress, she patted the spot beside her.

An invitation.

My dick stiffened, tenting my boxers.Oh God.Heaven really missed out on the day I stole her.

Jayne’s wet hair dripped onto the bed, and the towel barely concealed her tits. My desire for her continued to grow with every look and touch. With a growl, I yanked my boxers down and lunged for her. My beatless girl had the strength to counter my force. Her sharp inhale was music to my ear as I collided with her on the bed.
