But what I didn’t understand was why he had done it all. Power sure but this felt deeper. Like there was a key piece of the puzzle missing and when we discovered it, I didn’t think we would like what we found.

“Looks like Luca found something. He is going to be another minute or so.” Kenji said and I sighed with frustration.

I couldn’t shake the feeling that we were being watched and that bothered me.

“Trust me, we want what he has found.” Kenji said so I grit my teeth, searching the darkness for any signs of movement.

“Boss. Nicolo isn’t doing so well. We need to get him to a hospital.” One of the men said and I could hear Aurora’s voice mixed with Kenji’s.

“Tell them to head to the hospital now and I’ll meet them there. I am Nicolo’s next of kin so I can sort out the paperwork.” Aurora said.

“Fine. Don’t go alone.” I desperately wanted to be there with her, not liking that she had no security in leaving the house.

“I won’t. Caleb is going with me, and Kenji has insisted on Kaito coming too.” She said, her voice clearly showing how she felt about that. If Kaito was going, she would be safe.

“I’ll meet you there once Luca is out.” I watched the door, willing Luca to appear as I heard one of the cars start, taking Nicolo to the hospital.

A soft breeze brought with it the scent of roses, and my blood ran cold for a moment. Something was wrong. I knew it was, but I couldn’t figure out what.

Kenji would tell me if there was a problem with Luca, so I stayed put, guarding the entrance, and prayed that whatever the man had found was worth it.

It wasn’t just us that sat at the desk, but also files on the Maddens and the Mendez family too. Some of the files had information dating back years ago all the way to the birth of the Madden’s baby girl now.

The images in the file were intimate, including some that were sexual in nature, showing that privacy had been breached.

Why they were sitting out in the open like this, I didn’t know but it almost felt as if they wanted us to find them. Like a calling card to prove that we had been watched and had no power.

I thumbed through the documents and noticed one of the documents was addressed to the Redvue company. Interesting. I remembered that was the company Benjamin had questioned Alonso about before his death and I had heard it mentioned from time to time since then.

This was bigger than we thought. I piled the documents up, making sure I had everything before I headed out of the building. Whatever Rocco had planned, he was involved in something that was far bigger than a turf war between the Moretti family.

I hurried out of the building to find a tense Kingston waiting for me in the shadows.

“Took you long enough. What was so important?” He questioned, looking at the pile of documents in my arms.

“Here. See for yourself.” I said, offloading the lot to him. If he was going to be so tense about it, he could carry them.

“What the hell is this?” He muttered, flicking through the files.

“I don’t know but we need to get the Mendez and Madden family on this.” I said as we hurried towards the cars.

“I already contacted Declan. He wants you to take the files directly to Benjamin. The Mendez brothers will be there too.” Kenji said and Kingston groaned.

“Aurora is at the hospital.” He said, looking at me. I nodded.

“I’ll go there and get her. You go to the Maddens with the documents. I’ll pick up Kenji on the way past. We need to get ahead of this asap. Whatever this is, it is big, and I don’t think we will be given much breathing room before Rocco plays his next card.” I said warily, pulling out the keys to my truck.

“I agree. Stay in touch.” Kingston said as he dropped the files in his own truck before climbing in. I watched him drive away before getting into the driver’s seat.

The scent of roses drifted towards me before I felt the butt of a gun press against the back of my head.

“Good evening, Luca. I have been waiting for you.” The voice said.
