“Why would you be an asshole about it?” I snarled as he raised an eyebrow at me.
“I’m not. I am being honest. You don’t think more than one person can love someone? We have seen plenty of that in our world.” Aurora hesitated as she looked between us.
“Even so, why would I bother when she can have you?” I meant to say them with anger, but my words sounded broken.
“What are you saying, Kingston?” Aurora said as she stepped in front of me, drawing my attention away from Luca. I could lie, I could walk away from this and tell her it was nothing, but I was a desperate, jealous fool.
“I’m saying that I am in love with you,” I whispered, clenching my fists to stop myself from reaching for her as she looked up at me with wide eyes.
“I don’t understand. You haven’t said anything before, you knew?” She turned to Luca with a look of accusation.
“Of course, gorgeous. The man is as lovesick as a puppy. You think we haven’t both been aware of how each other feels about you?” He shrugged like it was nothing and it was to him now. He had her, she had opened her heart up to accepting him in her bed and intimate world. I was just the bodyguard.
“I’ll go. I’m sorry I said anything.” I turned to leave when her hand wrapped around my arm.
“Wait. You can’t just drop that on me and then leave, Kingston. What am I supposed to do now?” She stared at me and then at Luca, confusion and desperation in her eyes.
“Nothing. I was wrong to say anything when you have decided to take things deeper with Luca. I understand why you wouldn’t want someone like me, and I would never ask you to choose.” I pulled my arm from her grip when Luca hurried past me, blocking the front door.
“What if she didn’t have to choose?” he said softly, his muscles bulging as he held his arms up to block my retreat. The man was built like a god, and I was…not.
“Excuse me?” Aurora said as she heard him. He ignored her, watching me.
“I understand how you feel, King. What if we could both be happy? I consider you my closest friend and I would trust you with my life. Why would I take the opportunity from you to also live your dream if she is willing to?” I heard Aurora’s sharp intake of breath behind me as Luca and I stared at each other.
“How would that even work?” I whispered and he smiled.
“We have seen it work with the Maddens and the Mendez family. Why can’t it work for us too?” He looked behind me at Aurora.
“What do you think, Sunshine? Would you take both of us? Could you love both of us?” I froze in place, not willing to look at her as she went silent.
“It’s okay, Aurora. I know that I am not the kind of man who you would want.” I said as I closed my eyes. She hummed angrily and pulled me around to face her.
“First. Let me tell you that any woman would be lucky to have you. I have never met a more loyal, loving, and amazing man in my life. You are everything that a woman could want. Second, don’t make up my mind for me. I am shocked because two people in my life that I thought saw me just as a friend have confessed their love to me within twenty-four hours and I am trying to process that.” She stepped forward, resting her hands on my chest as she looked up at me with fire in her eyes.
“Lastly, to answer Luca’s question, yes. Yes, I could love both of you. I could be with both of you. I don’t know how the fuck it will work and if it is a mistake because I am terrified of losing both of you, but the idea of two men who have loved and accepted not just myself but also my son being in my life as my partners is not a complicated question.” She smiled at me and Luca as I held my breath, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
“Besides. I have spent many nights fantasizing about you and what it would be like to be with you. So, I am not going to say no now.” She flashed a wicked grin as Luca gasped and held a hand to his chest.
“You didn’t say that to me. Does that mean you didn’t fantasize about me?” He said playfully and she rolled her eyes.
“Your ego does not need that kind of boost. But if it shuts you up, yes. I had a huge crush on you growing up but filed you in the ‘never going to happen’ basket when you didn’t show interest in me.” She looked back at me, searching my eyes.
“Would you be willing to try this with the three of us? I don’t make promises that it will be easy but if you are both willing to try, I am too.” I reached out to brush her hair, loving the feeling of the silky strands between my calloused fingers.
“How could I say no, princess? You are my world, and I would take anything you give me.” Luca clapped me on the shoulder.
“Well, that’s settled then. Now, it is too damn early to be having serious conversations. Let’s go to bed.” He walked past me, wrapping an arm around Aurora as he went.
“You coming King? I promise no funny stuff just sleeping.” He winked at me, and I hesitated, not sure if this was going too fast.
“Come on Kingston. The bed is big enough for all of us and there is no point in driving home now.” She said as she held out a hand to me. I slid mine into hers and followed them to the room, feeling like I had just stepped into a dream and terrified that I would wake up and find it had been ripped from me.
