“So much security for a simple ranch. I am here to offer my assistance in this trying time.” she puts on a falsely sad face that, even on the screen, we can see right through it.
“Well, seeing as it’s being handled, I don’t know what you can do to help here. Dillon isn’t here, and we have enough emotional support. If we need something, we will call you.” Ellie’s trying to be pleasant, but her inner bitch was coming through. She had no patience for fake people. Bonnie is as fake as they came.
“Elenore, can you please let me in so I can talk to your mama? I am sure she has her hands full with all those men running about. This is her house, after all, not yours.” Bonnie’s sweet demeanor was slipping.
“I’m sorry, my mommy can’t answer the phone right now. She also said not to let strangers in when she isn’t here. Please come back later.” Ellie turned off the mic as we watched Bonnie start to yell and talk to the camera. Turning back on the mic, Ellie laid into her,“I am sorry I missed that. Bonnie, please. We are currently trying to support my friend and sister and her husband. Go away. In the unlikely time we require something, we will call. Until then, know your role and stay in your lane.”
Bonnie huffed, and as she turned back to her car, a bike comes ripping down the drive, punched in a code, and continued down the drive. Ellie ran out the door to meet the biker, and I watched as Bonnie hopped in her car and seized the opportunity to come onto the land.
“Honey, I’m home!” I hear Cougar yell as he gets off his bike.
“Have you gone stupid after your few days on the inside? Did you not see the big ass SUV at the gate that wasn’t being let in?” Ellie starts screaming at him.
“Uh, no? I just wanted to come home.” Cougar is looking around. The few brothers here come out at the sound of Ellie shrieking.
She is about to go off again when I touch her arm. We watch Bonnie’s SUV slowly pull into the drive. Not only does she get out of the driver’s seat, there is a man in her passenger seat. A man in uniform. What the fuck did that little prick let onto club land?
“Bonnie, the landowners are not in. We have told you that you are not welcome. You are going to have to leave.” I explain to her.
“Oh, sweet girl, we are just here because we are worried for you. After all, you were left in charge of your boyfriend’s kids, and one went missing. That must have put a strain on your relationship. I know how you like to pick men. We are just here to make sure that you are safe.” Bonnie approaches me and lays a patronizing hand on my shoulder.
My blood starts to boil. Where was she and this‘concern’when I was mentally and emotionally abused and beaten? Where was this when I tried to hold my life together with tape and chewing gum? Then the man in the front seat steps out, and my gaze cuts to Ellie. Cougar quickly cuts to block us from his view.
“The women have said that you are not to be here and were not given access to this land. Being a man of the law, you should know that being here is breaking those same rules you were sworn to uphold.” Cougar tells him authoritatively. Something I have never heard from him.
“We are here to fill in the blanks of the police report. A missing child is a big deal, and we want to ensure all the information has been collected.” Connard states, looking around Cougar to me.
“Thenyoushould have arrived in your patrol car. Not a member of the neighborhood watch. Besides, your officer talked to Caleb and me. We told you everything you needed to know. If there are gaps, that says something aboutyourwork as an officer of the law andnothingabout us.”
“Miss, the more you cooperate, the faster we can find your boyfriend’s adopted son,” he speaks condescendingly, and I want to claw his eyes out. But I don’t let the intrusive thoughts win. Before I can say anything else, more bikes start coming closer.
“I thought I smelled bacon. What the fuck do you think you are doing here?” Storm says, getting off his bike and standing toe to toe with the overweight officer.
“There is a missing child. We are here to gather more information.” Connard strains his neck to look the tall biker in the eye.
“How did you know she was here? We never told anyone she was coming back here. You have her address on file, which is also the address on file for the child you are looking for. I just returned from my shift and saw more civilians and bikers on the road than cops. Why don’t you rally the troops instead of stalking a poor woman with enough to deal with?”
“Listen here, you hooligan! That is the chief of police! You will show him the respect he deserves!” Bonnie pipes up.
“You were told to get off the land. So get off the land and go through proper channels.” Ellie says, shoving Bonnie back towards her car.
“Now see here. You cannot put your hands on someone who is here to help.” Connard reaches over and grabs Ellie’s arm.
In the blink of an eye, all the brothers here have their guns out and pointed at the lone, stupid cop. You can see the calculation in Connard’s eyes as he tries to defuse this and get what he wants. Bonnie starts crying and becomes hysterical. Before anyone can make another move, another bike comes tearing down the drive.
Popular place today.
“VP, I found him!” Bigfoot calls out and pulls Dillon off the back of his bike. Once his feet hit the ground, he hauls his little self over to me. I hear the brothers put their guns away, and there is a hush over the group of people.
“The kid is home. Get the fuck out of here.” Storm mumbles and ushers us into the big house while the brothers see the unwanted visitors off the drive.
Something isn’t sitting right with me.
Bigfoot recounts how he found Dillon. He swears it was a sheer moment of luck. He had pulled into a gas station to refuel, and Dillon popped up in the back of the truck in front of him.
“Not wanting to waste any time, I tried opening the doors, but they were locked. I immediately smashed the window in and unlocked it. I didn’t know who the person was or where they were. All I thought about was getting Dillon and getting him the fuck out of there.”
He continues with his story, saying he was nervous about putting him on the back of his bike because he seemed out of it. Almost as if the kidnapper drugged him. Thankfully, Dillon held on like a champ, and they made it back.
