I smile, loving the fire in her eyes. “Whatever you say baby-girl.”

Her eyes narrow, and she shakes her head. “You’re not taking no for an answer, are you?”

I grin just as the server brings down our starter. “Never,” I promise her.

I’m not giving up. I’ve pushed her away for too fucking long and denied myself what I’ve truly wanted. No more. I’m doing everything I can to get her where I want her.

She laughs. “I’ll enjoy the wooing, daddy,” she says with bright eyes.

My cock tightens at her words.

This is going to be fun.

ChapterThree

Kelly

“So,” Rina asks as she waltzes into my home. “How did it go last night?” A bright smile on her face. “I want to know everything.”

Oh, I bet she does. “Not much to tell, really,” I lie.

“That’s not going to happen, you have to tell me,” she whines.

“Well, the restaurant was amazing, and the food even better.”

She rolls her eyes. “The date?”

“Was Grant,” I say with a sigh. God, I still can’t believe that he ended up being my date.

Her mouth falls open in surprise. “No way,” she breathes. “Holy hell, really?”

Rina knows everything about what went down between Grant and I, especially how I felt about him leaving me after we just had sex. She’s been my shoulder to cry on and my sidekick throughout the years, and we know absolutely everything there is to know about one another.

“Yeah, he’s now determined to make me his.” I shiver, remembering the kiss he gave me at my door. He was adamant about giving me a ride home, no matter how much I objected, he wasn’t taking no for an answer. In the end it was just easier for me to get in the damn car than to argue with him.

“What does that even mean?” she asks.

“I’ve been asking myself the same questions since last night.”

The doorbell rings and I frown. “I’ll get it,” Rina says. “You just stay there, we’re nowhere near finished with this conversation yet.”

Of course, we’re not, Rina isn’t going to stop until she’s satisfied with every answer that I give her.

“Well, I didn’t expect you to show up,” she says, and I get to my feet and move to the hall where I can see that she’s opened the door only a little. “Although, I should have guessed by your words to her last night.”

My heart races.Grant?

I can’t hear what he says, but whatever it is, has her back straightening.

“Tell me, oh, Mr. Smooth Talker, why should she give you a shot? I mean, it’s not even been a year since your wife died, why now?”

I press a hand against my throat as fear grips me in a chokehold.

“Yes, I loved Helen. It was a gradual process over the months and eventually over the two years. But she wasn’t the love of my life, the attraction was instantaneous, combustible. I always knew that I was missing something, but I’m faithful, Helen was my wife, and I wouldn’t act on anything I felt with anyone else, no matter how fucking huge the pull was.”

“So what you’re saying is that you’ve always wanted my girl, but you had met her mother first?”

I can’t breathe, it’s as though I’m stuck, scared of his answer but at the same time dying to know what he has to say.
