“It’s a surprise. For me too. I’ll come and get you. I need to go home and shower. I’ll be back at about six fifteen.”

When Col left at five, Theo went up to the hall to have a few words with his father. How dare he offer Col money to walk away! And if it was a test, how dare he test him! But when he approached the drawing room, he could hear his parents arguing, which was nothing new. He often wondered how their marriage had survived this long. By the time he heard Col’s car, Theo had been through four combinations of clothes and was currently wearing his best grey jeans and a white T-shirt. When Col called to say he was outside, Theo grabbed his blue sweater and pulled it on as he clattered down the steps. He almost fell before he reached the bottom. His heart was still pounding when he opened the door.

Col was leaning against his car, looking delicious, and he opened the passenger door for Theo. Theo gave him a quick kiss before he got in.

“Is this our first date?” Theo fastened his seat belt.

“You’re not counting the fish and chips I bought, the visit to see my brother, my mum’s dinner or the meal last night?”

“Not really, because this is the two of us going somewhere together. I’m so excited. How did you find out about wherever it is we’re going?”

“Google.”

“Is it a museum?”

Col chuckled. “Not at this time of night. You’ll never guess so don’t bother trying.”

“You do realise I see that as a challenge?”

For the next fifteen minutes, Theo did a lot of talking and all Col said was, “No,” as well as laughing. A lot.

When Col put music on, Theo groaned. “You’d rather listen to that racket than me?”

“No, but I’m worried you’re going to guess now.”

Theo put his hands over his ears. “Turn it off or I’ll jump out.”

“Don’t forget to tuck and roll.”

“Heartless.” Theo smiled to himself. “Switch it off or I’ll have to play with my cock.”

Col turned the music up.

“Fine. I’ll unzip you and play with yours.”

The music went off.

“Ooh, I have a weapon,” Theo cackled.
