This was abigmoment for him.
In all his years he had never formally invited a Little to live with him, and now here he was, waiting on bated breath for an answer.
But Jack didn’t have to wait long.
In fact, Chrissie’s answer was more or less immediate…
‘Yes! I say yes!’ Chrissie squealed, jumping up and down in delight. ‘You’ve made every one of my dreams come true, Daddy!’
Jack couldn’t help but get wrapped up in the emotion of the moment. He could see that his offer meant just as much to Chrissie as it did to him.
‘You can make changes too,’ Jack said. ‘I want it to feel like a perfect Daddy and Little home. Seriously, you can call a designer. Do the work yourself. Whichever you prefer. I want you to feel like you’re at home. YourForever Homein fact.’
Chrissie ran over to Jack with a look of sheer glee on her face. She jumped up into Jack’s arms and the pair of them kissed.
For Jack, this was shaping up to be the best day.
But there was still one thing on his mind. Amongst the drama of the situation with Nigel, the small matter of the town council’s deliberations over the future of Stallion Valley had been swept to one side.
But Jack new it was an issue that wouldn’t go away for long.
And that was where Chrissie could come in…
‘How would you like to work for the Stallion Valley Council?’ Jack said, putting Chrissie down.
‘Huh? How do you mean?’ Chrissie replied, a puzzled look on her face. ‘I’m no politician!’
‘No, I mean as part of the group working on promoting Stallion Valley,’ Jack said. ‘Think about it. We could use your big city PR skills to put Stallion Valley out there in the world while at the same time keeping control of our own affairs. That’s my vision for the town. We can be modern and welcoming, but we always need to be keeping our hands on the wheel. Do you like the sound of that?’
It made total sense to Jack.
Chrissie was a super-smart and diligent worker who had a great heart. She was everything that Stallion Valley needed. But of course, she may not want to give up her job.
‘That sounds incredible!’ Chrissie said, her face full of joy. ‘I was kind of done with my old place to be honest. Even though Nigel quit, I wasn’t so keen on being reminded of him in some way every time I logged on to my work emails, you know?’
Jack nodded. Chrissie had been very brave in getting over the drama with Nigel, but it was understandable that she wanted to ditch any memory of him.
‘Shall I call work to inform them?’ Jack said, not wanting to put Chrissie through any more stress.
‘No, Daddy. I’ll do it,’ Chrissie said. ‘I may be a Little, but I can be a big girl too. This will be my final victory over Nigel.’
Jack felt himself swell with pride.
His Little was a sweet as sugar, but Chrissie had backbone too. And Chrissie would need it when dealing with the various stubborn characters she’d meet at the town council too! But that was for another time. Right then in that moment, Jack could only reflect on what was turning out to be a perfect day.
‘I think we’re going to be alright, kid,’ Jack said, taking a look around the room and the many, many boxes. ‘But perhaps we should call on some friends to help us out with this?’
Chrissie giggled as Jack got out his phone and dialed up for some Daddy assistance.
‘River, we’re going to need your truck,’ Jack said, a wry smile on his face. ‘No, not that one. We’re going to needThe Beast.’
‘The Beast?’ Chrissie said. ‘That sounds scary!’
Jack laughed. River had a collection of trucks for his wood business. The Beastjust happened to be the biggest truck of them all.
‘How about you call your Little friends and tell them to bring some supplies,’ Jack said. ‘I think with us Daddies doing all the heavy lifting we might want some freshly made lemonade!’
Chrissie giggled with delight and set about contacting Lilly and Poppy.
