“Oh, wow! I’m so happy for you!” I said excitedly, giving her a hug.

“I’ve earned some extra so…”

“Oh, but don’t spend it all on me,” I begged. “Or I would feel so guilty.”

Raven laughed. “Don’t be so vain, Kayla. Of course, I’m not spending it all on you.”

We both laughed as we got ready for our haircut, color and treatment. I was so looking forward to a new appearance.

“So, does your boyfriend know it’s your birthday?” Raven asked.

“He’s not my boyfriend,” I said quickly.

“Oh, it’s just almost the same,” Raven said. “It’s going there, anyway. Or else I’m going to give him a good kick on his---”

“Sshh!” I said, making her snicker. I had really missed our female bonding moments.

“Anyway, I don’t know if he knows,” I told her. “But I’m definitely not telling him. I don’t want him to go out of his way. He’s already done so much for me.”

“Aww…” she said, clutching at her heart dramatically. “How I wish I had a billionaire lover boy too!”

I laughed. “Shut up, Raven.”

“So wait,” she suddenly said, leaning closer to me even though someone was doing her toenails. “In those two weeks, nothing really happened between you?”

I had to laugh at the shocked expression on her face. “Nothing, I promise. And besides, it’s not allowed. It’s risky for my pregnancy because I just had some bleeding.”

“Oh, bummer!” Raven said with a pout. “But what about now?”

“Well… the doctor did mention it’s fine now,” I said. “But why are we even talking about it? Robert and I aren’t a couple. Nothing will happen again between us.”

“I doubt that very much!” she said, grinning widely and making me laugh. I felt a shiver run down my spine as I thought about the kisses we had shared in the house and how it took all of our self-control not to go further than that.

After our pampering time, we had to skip the shopping part.

Just as we were heading out, a familiar tall figure came into the center’s lobby, causing several women to turn their heads and gasp upon seeing him. It was Robert, sauntering toward me, looking so damn handsome in a simple gray sweater and jeans.

“What are you doing here?” I asked in surprise.

“Well, I just found out it’s your birthday,” he said. “I’m hoping you’d let me take you out to dinner. If that’s fine with you, Raven..”

“Of course!” Raven exclaimed with a meaningful grin. “She’s all yours! We’re done here, anyway.”

Raven gave me a quick hug. “Happy birthday again, my dearest and bestest friend in the world! Just call me later tonight or tomorrow!”

She winked at me meaningfully before skipping out of the center. I shook my head in disbelief. That wasn’t so obvious, was it?I thought with bewilderment. From the look Robert gave me and her, I could tell he knew what she was thinking.

“You don’t have to treat me or anything, Robert,” I said when we got to his Jaguar. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that car before. Could he have just bought it? The facade was spectacular. The interior was so elegant and spotless. I was awestruck at the magnificence of the car.

“I want to, Kayla. You should learn to just be grateful for the gifts you receive and for the people who love you.”

My heart began to pound wildly. Did he just saylove?

“Don’t be silly, Kayla!” I muttered.

Robert turned toward me with a confused look on his face.Oh, shit. I said it out loud.

Luckily, he just kept on driving. I had no idea where we were going. He refused to answer me, saying it was a surprise.
