“You look stunning. It’s time for the reveal. Jason will come down here. After that, the ceremony begins, which means you’re walking down the aisle and exchanging vows. There’s a small party right after. Let me know if you need anything, okay?”
I stand, and Mom stands beside me.
“You ready?”
I inhale, nodding.
The next knock that comes on the door makes my heart skip. I know it’s Jason. What if I’m not pretty enough? What if my additional weight turns him off?
“You have to go to the living room, Fifi.”
The door opens up, and the soft thuds of his shoe fill the living room—my heart pounds in my chest. Mom nudges me forward, and I shuffle away awkwardly.
Oh god. Oh god.
When I step into the living room, Jason has his back facing me. In his impeccable blue suit, he’s the exact image I have when I think of my Prince Charming. His curly hair falls slightly below his collar, and his hands are in his pocket.
The photographer stands at the corner of the room, near the door, camera-ready. I inhale one last time before tapping Jason’s shoulders.
Slowly, he turns to face me. He takes in the sight of me, his eyes roaming until our gaze meets. His smile is tender. Are those tears in his eyes? He bows and takes a handkerchief from his pocket, dabbing his eyes before putting it away again.
“You look stunning.”
“You don’t look so bad yourself.”
He takes my hands and spins me for a moment before holding my waist.
“Are you ready to be stuck with me for life?”
“The real question is areyouready?”
“I was born ready.” He winks at me.
“Does Jason know about that?”
“I was kind of embarrassed, to be honest.”
“I think you should tell him. I mean, I’m also willing to help. If you want to be a vet doctor, then it’s only fair you get the chance.”
But that’s the problem. Jason has already done enough for me, and I don’t want to burden him. The tuition is a lot. Plus, I still have to wait for the baby to be a little older anyway. I know the baby will have a big family willing to help out with babysitting, but for now, I think I should handle it. Maybe I can consider my education and career again in about a year.
Just then, a wet sensation gushes out from between my legs. My water just broke. I swallow, looking up at Richard, who’s watching TV with me in my room.
“Richard.”
“Mm?”
He turns, and slowly, his eyes fall on the wet area between my legs. My Greene pants are soaked all the way down.
His mouth falls, and he stands to his feet immediately.
“Oh gosh. I need to go get Mom.”
He rushes out of the room, and the door bangs behind him.
His loud screams come from the staircase.
“Mom! Where are you?”
