A plan begins forming in my head instantly. Not only have I done this many times, but I’ve also tripled our profits by setting up a packaging chain under our airport. “I got it. Who’s bringing the shipment to the plane in Columbia?” I ask, getting all the details I need to put together a plan. I walk to my desk and write out the plan before going to the kitchen to make a quick pot of coffee.
I pour a large cup and leave the rest for the guys. They will be up soon anyways. It's rare any of us ever sleep more than four to six hours.
I go back to my desk to begin calling my contacts to organize the drop. The control I have on the island may feel like it’s crumbling, but this is something I can control. I can be precise and create a plan that has no flaws. My men will follow my orders to a tee, knowing I leave no room for error. Unlike our little princess.
Chapter 30
I wake up to the smell of coffee. My nose scrunches when I see it’s only a little bit past three in the morning. Anxiety fills me when I realize today I need to call my uncle. He’s going to expect information from me. With everything going on, I’ve hardly been able to get any information on the targets, and the lack of sleep is still affecting me more than I expected it to.
Walking to the kitchen, I pour a cup of coffee as my thoughts spiral. I sit at the island, thinking about what I’m going to do. I need to get dressed, get an eye on my target, then find a way in. I decide to get dressed before scoping them out. I’ve already downloaded their schedule on my tablet after hacking into the database last night.
I quickly copied all the information down on paper so I could delete any trace of it from my electronics, making it impossible to lead back to me.
I dig out my bag from under my bed and unzip the hidden pocket that conceals my surveillance equipment. It is going to be difficult to hide this, but if all the suites are set up in a similar way, I might have a chance.
I sneak out of the suite on silent feet.
After everyone went to bed, I oiled each door so I didn’t have to worry about a sound in case I needed to sneak out.
It’s still dark outside, giving me the perfect cover. I’m able to make it to my target's window when I notice the lights are on.
Dammit, does anyone ever sleep here?
Luckily, there’s a balcony and the old stone exterior is easy enough to climb, so I make my way up and over the railing. Their back is to me while they work at their desk on what looks like weapons maintenance homework. I look for a good angle for a camera and set one up before going to the vent just beside the door.
I wish on all the lucky charms in the universe that they won’t turn around as I install the listening device. I need this to work.
A small creak sounds as I slide the device through the vent, but my mark doesn’t move. When I lean forward, I notice they have headphones on.
Thank fuck!
I push the device through and settle it against the far wall with minimal sounds. Feeling accomplished with a camera and listening device in place, I move to head back down when my phone rings. The sound startles me, but worse, my target moves, removing their headphones as they turn around. I dart to the side of the balcony and swing my body over the edge. It’s only a one-story fall, but it hurts like a fucking bitch.
I take off running, straight to the woods when I hear their door open to the balcony. I make it to the tree line and dare to look back, but no one is there. Hiding behind a few trees in the dark of night, I take a few deep breaths, keeping my eyes glued on the balcony.
Suddenly, the door to the building opens and a shadow of a figure looks around. After a moment, they go back inside.
I pull out my stupid phone to see a text from Damien.
Sunshine: Don’t forget you get to spend the day with your buddy. I’ll be at the gym if you want to work out before you go.
Shit, I hope he didn’t go to my room before texting me. If he knows I was gone, then my alibi is blown if anyone starts asking questions.
Me: I’ll meet you there, just let me get ready first.
Sunshine: No worries, I didn’t want to wake you so I’m already here.
Thank goodness, my cover may still be intact.
Slowly, I make my way back to the suite. My ankle is sore from the drop, but I power through to try to make sure it’s not noticeable. If anyone asks, I’ll just tell them I fell from being dizzy or something. Hopefully, that will avoid any more questions.
I get back and sneak into my room then head for the shower. The wound on my head is mostly scabbed over by now, so I figure I can actually wash my hair this time. I take my time under the hot spray.
When I finally emerge, I upload a light workout to my app, not wanting to push it today.
I pack a bag to stay the night in my old room and an extra set of clothes to throw on after the gym. Today might just be the first good day I spend here. It feels like a month has passed, whereas it’s only been one week.
I grab my bag, planning to dart out of the room before anyone can stop me. Rushing around the corner, I run right into Lev. I gasp as I stumble back, his arm reaches out to help me balance as my sore ankle gives out.
